In case you have been living under a rock, you may have heard of the upcoming final season of Netflix’s super-hit show, Stranger Things.
Set for release this Thursday, immeasurable hype surrounds the final season, which will be released in three parts on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve, respectively.
The Stranger Things fandom has waited three years for the release. Many have re-watched the previous seasons and have concocted a few theories.
Fans are almost convinced that several important characters are almost certain to die.
Vecna
This one doesn’t need a theory because it’s fairly obvious. All super villains meet the same fate. Whether it’s Thanos or Voldemort, the bad guys always lose at the end.
Thus, Vecna’s death is almost inevitable. The Mind Flayer’s General may have been weakened at the end of Season 4, but he will come back stronger in the final season to execute his final plan.
However, the gang will reunite and rally against Vecna. Watch out for Eleven, who previously banished him into the Upside Down. Eleven will likely have the last laugh against her greatest rival.

Will Byers
Netflix released the first 5 minutes of the final season, which revealed the hurdles Will Byers faced during his time in the Upside Down, as seen in the first season.
The Demogorgon dragged Will’s body to Vecna, who marked and placed a seed of connection inside Joyce Byers’ youngest son. Thus, Will became a connection between the real world and the Upside Down.
A teaser also showed Vecna’s desire to use Will one last time, suggesting that the latter could be a key player in the ultimate destruction of Hawkins.
Will is connected to the hive mind and the Upside Down. Thus, killing Vecna would also mean the end of Will Byers, unless the gang could figure out a way of saving their friend.

Max Mayfield
Max technically died for a minute in the Season 4 finale, allowing Vecna to open the fourth and final gate. A massive “earthquake” jolted Hawkins as the four gates connected, forming a gateway between the real world and the Upside Down.
Max is currently comatose and admitted to the hospital. Trailers showed Lucas carrying her unconscious body around the hospital, but as things stand, her chances of survival seem slim.
Fans are right to assume that Max may die because Vecna has already gotten to her. Furthermore, some clips show Lucas and Max being attacked by Demogorgons, putting the characters at risk of a brutal death.

Steve Harrington
Steve Harrington, played by Joe Kerry (Djo), has had one of the most fascinating character arcs in TV history. Harrington went from the spoiled, arrogant boyfriend in Season 1 to a respectable, elder brother-like figure in Season 4.
The arc has been so moving that the same fans who rooted against him in the first season are now begging for his character to have a happy ending without death. However, many fans are convinced that the Stranger Things heartthrob will be killed.
First, his character arc has already undergone a complete overhaul. He has already confessed his feelings to Nancy, who still looks committed to Jonathan. Therefore, the romance between Harrington and Nancy may not be rekindled.
Furthermore, the creators have a reputation for killing off beloved characters close to Dustin Henderson. In Season 4, Dustin lost Eddie, and he may lose Steve Harrington in the final season.

Eleven
We know that Eleven will almost certainly kill Vecna yet again. However, the win will not be easy, as the Mind Flayer’s General is a formidable foe with similar powers to El.
Sometimes, defeating the villain requires human sacrifice. Tony Stark sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos in the finale of Avengers: Endgame. Harry Potter also technically had to “die” because he was a Horcrux himself.
Along similar lines, fans are hypothesising that El may have to sacrifice herself to defeat Vecna and end the tale once and for all.

All the Fan Theories Should Be Taken With a Grain of Salt
The Stranger Things fandom is extremely excited for the final season. A whole generation grew up with the show and found the characters relatable on a deep level.
However, their excitement has led to some outrageous theories that should be taken with a grain of salt. Fortunately, by January 1, 2026, we will have all the answers.
