Dale Steyn Offers Help After Nepal’s Brave Fight Shocks England

They pushed a world giant to the edge and almost pulled off what would have been the biggest upset in T20 World Cup history. Even in defeat, Nepal walked away with respect, admiration and now, an unexpected offer from one of fast bowling’s greatest names, Dale Steyn.

Clearly impressed by Nepal’s fearless approach, former South African speedster Dale Steyn took to X and made a heartfelt gesture.

A chase that nearly created history

Chasing a challenging 185, Nepal finished on 180 for 6, falling agonisingly short by just five runs. For a moment, it looked like history was about to be written.

Dipendra Singh Airee led the charge with a fluent 44 off 29 balls, striking six boundaries and a six. He anchored the chase when Nepal needed calm, but also showed intent when the game demanded momentum.

Nepal’s start was bold. Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh came out attacking and stitched a lively opening stand before England struck back. Bhurtel’s quick 29 off 17 kept the run rate alive, but early wickets meant Nepal had to rebuild.

Then came the partnership that changed the mood. Captain Rohit Paudel and Airee added 82 runs together, bringing Nepal right back into the contest. Airee fell first, followed by Paudel for a composed 39, yet Nepal had already planted doubt in England’s mind.

The final push that shook England

Even after losing momentum, Nepal refused to fade. Aarif Sheikh departed, but Lokesh Bam injected fresh life into the chase. Two massive sixes off Jofra Archer suddenly brought Nepal within touching distance.

With 24 needed off the last two overs, belief was everywhere. Mark Wood conceded runs but removed Gulsan Jha, leaving Nepal needing 10 from the final over.

Sam Curran held his nerve and conceded just five runs to help England avoid defeat narrowly.

Lokesh Bam’s explosive 39 off 20 balls stood out as a statement of intent. Nepal may have lost, yet they showed they belong on this stage.
