Sergio Busquets, an Inter Miami midfielder, has made an official announcement about his retirement from soccer at the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer season. The 37-year-old player declared it in a video posted on his Instagram account, meaning that the current season will be his final time playing.

“These will be my last months on the pitch. I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all grateful,” Busquets said. “A heartfelt thank you to everyone and to football for everything. You will always be a part of this beautiful story,” he added.

During his time at Barcelona, Busquets contributed to a golden period of the club, winning nine La Liga and three UEFA Champions League titles while being a key cog on some of the best teams and with some of the best players, including Pep Guardiola.

Alongside Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Andrés Iniesta, Busquets helped turn Barcelona into a force in European football while staying in a similar vein with them.

Busquets also had an impressive international career. He earned 143 caps for Spain and was integral to their successful period. He won the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and followed that with the 2012 European Championship. He played his last international game for Spain in the 2022 World Cup.

In 2023, Busquets considered a move to join Inter Miami, a club in the United States, and play alongside Messi, a former teammate at Barcelona. He has so much experience on the MLS side as they try to create a competitive side. Now, after almost 20 years of being at the elite level, Busquets is going to retire.
