Every year has its surprises, but 2025 felt different. AI exploded, hardware finally caught up with our expectations, and a few powerful people shaped the industry more than anyone expected.

Some of the winners were innovators, while others just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Either way, they defined the year.

Here are the biggest tech winners of 2025.

Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo didn’t try to revolutionise gaming this year; it just made the Switch better in every way. The Switch 2 has a sleeker design, sturdier magnetic Joy Cons, a brighter 1080p HDR screen and way more power.

Since it supports almost the entire Switch library, the console launched with a massive lineup. New first-party hits like Metroid Prime 4 helped too.

Third party studios also jumped in with games like Cyberpunk 2077, Street Fighter 6 and even Final Fantasy VII Remake arriving for the system.

It earned a 93 in reviews, and sales have been so strong that Nintendo had to raise its forecasts. For a simple iteration this one turned out to be a huge win.

NVIDIA

If AI was the story of the year then NVIDIA was the company powering the whole thing. Its GPUs became the go to hardware for training and running AI models.

That demand sent NVIDIA’s stock soaring and pushed it to the centre of every major AI conversation.

The company’s long bet on parallel processing finally paid off. Whether you were running a massive model in a data centre or experimenting with AI at home, NVIDIA was part of the process.

The only challenge ahead is competition from companies like Google and Microsoft which are building their own AI chips. For now though NVIDIA sits comfortably at the top.

Tech Billionaires

The wealthiest tech leaders had a very good year. According to Oxfam, the 10 richest US billionaires gained a combined 698 billion dollars in 2025. Many of them also grew closer to the Trump administration.

Elon Musk reportedly donated hundreds of millions to Trump and Republican groups which opened a lot of doors in Washington.

Regulations loosened acquisitions got easier and Big Tech enjoyed more freedom than it has in years.

Whether you see that as good or bad it is impossible to deny that tech billionaires were some of the year’s biggest winners.

AI Video

AI video took over the internet in 2025. Meta Google and OpenAI rolled out tools that made it incredibly easy to create realistic videos from simple prompts.

Suddenly AI clips were everywhere. Some apps like Pinterest and TikTok even added options to show less AI content because feeds were overflowing with it.

OpenAI’s Sora hit one million downloads in a few days. Google’s Veo generated more than 40 million videos in its first few weeks. Politicians shared AI clips. Creators made fake trailers and imaginary animals. Deepfakes blended into everyday posts.

More than half of Americans say they cannot easily tell the difference between AI and real content. The trend is not slowing down.

AI video officially became part of daily life in 2025.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

After years of being bulky and awkward, foldable phones finally hit their stride. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 delivered the first foldable that truly felt like a normal phone.

It is lighter and narrower than the S25 Ultra yet still packs a 200 megapixel camera, a 5000 mAh battery and an 8 inch inner display.

Sales jumped 50 percent from last year and overall foldable shipments reached new highs. For the first time it felt like foldables were not just a niche experiment. They were ready for everyday users.

Smart Glasses

Smart glasses made a surprising comeback. This time the tech was smaller lighter and much more useful.

Meta’s Ray Ban Display and Xreal’s upcoming Project Aura showed that wearing a screen on your face can actually make sense.

Better optics and lighter batteries helped but AI was the real breakthrough. Hands free interactions finally worked well enough for everyday use.

The category is still young but the momentum from 2025 makes it clear that smart glasses have a real future again.

Fast Chargers

Fast charging is not a new idea but in 2025, it became genuinely life-changing. The Pixel Watch 4 could go from under 20 percent to over 50 percent in about ten minutes.

That small boost was enough to change how people used it day to day.

Apple added fast charging to the iPad Pro M5. The electric vehicle world went even further. BYD showed off 1000 kilowatt EV charging which could cut charging time in half. Formula E debuted fast charging pit stops.

Even Honda announced its first full size electric motorcycle with rapid charging.

Fast charging is not the flashiest innovation but it saved people time and that made it one of the biggest wins of the year.

Magnets

Magnets quietly became one of the most useful features in modern devices. With the adoption of the Qi2 standard Google’s Pixel 10 series embraced magnetic accessories and introduced its own Pixelsnap system.

Apple’s iPhone 17 Crossbody Strap also impressed people with its simple magnetic length adjustment.

These accessories may seem small but they solved everyday problems and made devices easier to use. Sometimes the little things make the biggest difference.

The Winners We Didn’t Expect
