Between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, a series of shootings took place in Austin, Texas. Police Chief Lisa Davis confirmed that a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old carried out the shootings, after stealing weapons from a store, as well as the vehicles they used.

This series of shooting sprees left four injured. These teenagers engaged in at least 12 drive-by shootings, robberies, and vehicle thefts spanning South and East Austin.

The Incidents and Damages

Driving around the city in stolen vehicles, the suspects fired at two fire stations, apartment buildings, and houses during a robbery and shooting spree from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said.

  • Random Targets: The suspects drove around the city, shooting randomly at houses, buildings, and bystanders, which left at least 4 seriously injured.
  • Fire Station Hit: Gunfire hit two separate fire department stations. In one instance, the gunfire hit a firetruck while the personnel stood directly behind it. Luckily, no one was injured.
  • Stolen Property: The suspects stole around 4 different vehicles to travel around the city during the shooting sprees. The weapons used in the crime were also stolen.

  • The Detainees: The primary suspects are two boys, aged 15 and 17. A third male suspect who initially fled on foot was successfully tracked down and detained by the Manor Police Department on Sunday night.
  • Stolen Weapons: Austin Police Department Chief Lisa Davis noted the 15-year-old allegedly used a firearm stolen from a store on Saturday, while the 17-year-old already had an outstanding warrant for gun theft from the same store.
  • No Known Motive: Authorities confirmed the attacks appear to be entirely random, with no clear motive identified.

Law enforcement officers successfully neutralised the threat by taking all three teenage suspects into custody and lifting the shelter-in-place orders. The Austin Police Department continues to investigate the random attacks while local trauma centres treat the four injured victims. Community members can now safely resume their normal activities, though authorities still request any additional tips or eyewitness accounts.
