For years, the narrative around Hassan Khan has been shaped by assumptions. Many believed he left Pakistan cricket out of frustration. Others argued he was forced to look elsewhere due to a lack of opportunities.
Now, the former Pakistan U19 captain has finally set the record straight. And interestingly, his version is far simpler than the noise around it.
A Sudden Decision, Not a Planned Exit
Hassan, who led Pakistan at the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2018, revealed that his move to the United States in 2023 was not a carefully calculated decision.
Instead, it happened quickly, almost unexpectedly.
“If I’m honest, there wasn’t any particular moment. It was all very sudden,” he said while speaking to reporters. “I didn’t really think it through in detail, like deciding to leave everything behind or anything like that.”
In fact, the all-rounder admitted that the entire process unfolded within just 10 to 15 days. There was no long-term planning, no dramatic fallout, just an opportunity that came his way and one he chose to take.
“It wasn’t that sort of situation; I simply got an opportunity, quite unexpectedly. As far as I remember, it all happened within a period of about 10 to 15 days,” he added.
Life After the Move
Since shifting to the USA setup, Hassan’s career has taken a fascinating turn. He began by featuring for the Chicago Kingsmen before earning a contract with the San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket.
From there, doors started opening. He has since featured in multiple global leagues, including Australia’s Big Bash League and the Caribbean Premier League.
Gradually, he built a reputation as a reliable all-rounder, something that once made him one of Pakistan’s most exciting young prospects.
Back in PSL
Interestingly, Hassan has now returned to the Pakistan Super League (PSL), but under a different identity.
In PSL 11, he is representing Hyderabad Kingsmen as an overseas player, owing to his association with USA Cricket. It is a unique situation, playing in a domestic league of your home country, but as a foreign recruit.
Yet, it perfectly sums up his unconventional journey. Perhaps the most striking part of Hassan’s statement is his clarity. There is no bitterness, no sense of injustice.
“Perhaps it just wasn’t in my destiny to play for Pakistan,” he said, reflecting on his international ambitions.
He acknowledged that the path he chose was not the easiest. However, he also made it clear that he has no complaints.
“By the grace of God, I’ve earned respect… I’m playing in leagues around the world, and I’m satisfied with my decision.”
