It’s a win for inclusive education. Pakistan has taken a decisive step to support students with learning difficulties, and the education sector is about to change for the better.

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has officially launched a nationwide Remedial therapy program across schools under the Federal Directorate of Education. This initiative aims to bring students with learning difficulties back on track through timely intervention and expert care.

Moving Towards Inclusive Education

This program was formalised through a partnership with the National Institute of Psychology at Quaid-i-Azam University. Senior officials, including Federal Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, marked the launch of the signing ceremony on April 1, 2026.

The initiative builds on the Dyslexia Bill 2022. It focuses on early diagnoses and support that caters to each student’s individual needs. Through structured remedial therapy, the government will provide the support students need instead of leaving them behind.

What the Program Will Deliver

This isn’t about optics. The initiative is designed for real impact through a hands-on approach. Schools will host a specialised team tasked with assessing and supporting students directly within their learning environment.

This will be done through several measures.

  • Deployment of 60 trained remedial therapists
  • Support from 3 expert coordinators
  • On-site diagnostic assessments
  • Evidence-based therapeutic interventions

Consistent remedial therapy will ensure that students receive personalised attention that fits them.

Empowering Teachers

Students may be the primary focus, but the support doesn’t end there. Teachers are just as important for this change; they will receive the tools to better understand and manage unique learning needs in the classroom.

Educators will be able to:

  • Identify early signs of learning difficulties
  • Adapt teaching strategies for diverse learners
  • Create inclusive and supportive classroom environments

By integrating remedial therapy on both ends, it becomes a part of everyday learning rather than a parallel system.

Building a Sustainable Support System

This initiative goes against the trend of short-lived reforms by aiming for long-term impact. It combines psychological expertise with teacher development. Through this approach, the support system becomes embedded in the education structure.

With a policy that puts therapy with training, the program becomes a model that can expand beyond federal schools. The goal is simple: each student deserves to reach their full academic potential.

Why This Matters

For years, students with learning difficulties in Pakistan have received limited support as well as suffered from social stigma. This program directly confronts that reality by bringing structured, professional care within schools.

Most importantly, it humanises the learning experience for all students. Through consistent remedial therapy, students will be able to build confidence and remain engaged in their education journey without any roadblocks. This education reform is set to boost the narrative towards equity and accessibility for learners.
