Moon Sighting Pakistan

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry announced the official launch of Moon Sighting Pakistan.

Moon Sighting Pakistan has been launched by the Government of Pakistan with an aim to curb moon sighting ‘controversy in the country’ according to the website.

Each year, there is always a debate going on in regards to when the moon will be spotted and when will Islamic events be held accordingly.

Some say that they have spotted the moon whereas others claim no such moon sightings have been spotted. Thus, as a solution, the government has introduced this platform.

It shows the main Islamic dates and months for the next five years based on scientific evidence. The government also plan on introducing the Moon Sighting Pakistan application for the citizens of the country very soon.

The introduction of this platform has sparked a controversy on social media as many religious scholars and those who sit in the Ruet-e-Hilal (moon-sighting) committee have declared this method of moon sighting in Pakistan unethical and irrelevant.

Noted religious scholar and head of the unofficial Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Qasim Ali Khan Mosque, Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai shared that he has no issues with the launch of the site, however, he added that the site should not be referred to for observing Ramazan and Eidul Fitr.

However, Mufti Muneeb, Chairman Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, has advised Federal Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain to refrain from commenting on religious matters.
