Rising from the streets of Karachi, a young boy with no background or professional training in music, today Muhammad Umair Tahir is one of the leading names in Pakistan’s music industry. You’ve probably heard his music, seen his videos or witnessed him enthusiastically dancing at Hasan Raheem’s wedding, but who is this budding talent that has established a name beyond borders? Let’s take a look.
Began as a Bedroom Producer in 2016
Some start as bathroom singers, others start as bedroom producers; Umair is among the latter. Born in a middle-class family in Karachi’s Federal B Area, Umair was born a creative kid. When his father bought him a computer, he started right away, downloading software to produce music and spending hours sitting in front of the screen creating magic.
He started making music in 2016, a time when Martin Garrix was playing on every other speaker. He began creating House music, but what truly inspired him was what he was listening to at the time, something quite uncommon for those years, ‘Young Stunners.’
He would often reach out to them, but given that he was so young, the stunners wouldn’t take him too seriously until they heard his music. And that’s when Asli Hai came out, music produced by Umair himself at merely 15 years old.
He Blew Up!
The success of Asli hai isn’t unknown to any. That song blew up, and so did Umair! People started reaching out to him, his DMs started blowing up, and everyone wanted to know about the 15-year-old kid who produced the music for the song that began trending at number one on YouTube in Pakistan just a after days.
Upward and Onward
In 2023 alone, Umair produced around 150-160 songs. The kind and amount of content he has been putting out there is unmatchable. In 2016, when Umair started his career, he did not have connections, he did not have PR, he didn’t know how to market himself, but he had the most important thing: sheer amount of talent and passion for his work.

He would reach out to artists every day, regardless of who got back to him, and keep working on his craft. In fact, he sold his first beat for mere Rs1000, not knowing the kind of name he would become in the next four years.
