Karachi Bans Illegal Cattle Markets Under Section 144

Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha 2025, Karachi authorities have taken strict steps to regulate the sale of sacrificial animals. The Commissioner has banned all unauthorised cattle markets, allowing sales only at 14 officially approved locations across the city’s seven districts.

Why the Ban?

This move aims to prevent traffic jams, public crowding, and hygiene issues caused by roadside animal markets. In previous years, unregulated markets led to serious management problems, especially when traders brought in hundreds of thousands of animals from across Pakistan.

Strict Enforcement Ordered

The Karachi Commissioner has directed district administrations to take firm action against violators. Any attempt to set up illegal cattle markets will face immediate consequences. He emphasised that maintaining control is essential during the Eid season, when cattle trading reaches its peak.

Markets Must be Well-Prepared

Approved market managers must ensure proper facilities for buyers and sellers. This includes:

  • Designated parking areas to avoid road blockages

  • Continuous cleanliness to prevent diseases and foul smells

  • Security arrangements to ensure safe transactions

Authorities have made it clearโ€”any negligence will not be tolerated.

District officers and relevant departments will monitor the city closely. They are responsible for responding to complaints swiftly and ensuring full compliance with the rules.

Goal: A Safer, Smoother Eid Season

This decision is part of a broader effort to keep the city orderly and safe during Eid. With proper regulation, both residents and livestock traders can experience a hassle-free and hygienic environment.
