Looks like YouTube has just stumbled upon a potential new rival. Believe it or not, Instagram just might be the platform which might give the world’s largest online music video streaming platform some serious competition.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the photo-sharing social media application is getting a major feature update which will allow it to accommodate videos up to an hour long!

At this point, no one is exactly sure how the feature will work, however, it might be an extension of the Instagram Stories feature.

According to the WSJ report, The longer form video would be vertical can open new opportunities for the app to rake in ad dollars as longer videos could accommodate more ads. It would also help Facebook chip away at YouTube’s dominance in video.

Just like how YouTube has a massive video based following, Instagram has a massive image-based following where even businesses have started to make moolah. By introducing videos, publishers and video content maker can explore this new market with massive potential.
