PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has once again shown support for his team in the Asia Cup 2025. Sources told Geo News on Friday that Naqvi will pay from his own pocket the fine placed on fast bowler Haris Rauf by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The ICC fined Haris 30 percent of his match fee for breaching the Code of Conduct. The incident took place during Pakistan’s Super Four clash with India in Dubai on September 21. He reacted to taunts from Indian fans and made gestures that officials later ruled inappropriate.
Insiders said Naqvi also assured the squad that he will cover any future fines on Pakistani players. The ICC held hearings on Friday for both Haris Rauf and batter Sahibzada Farhan regarding separate incidents in the same game.
Farhan celebrated his half-century with a “gunfire celebration” using his bat but escaped without a fine. ICC match referee Richie Richardson issued him only a formal warning. Officials noted that while the act was not punishable, players should avoid repeating such behavior on the field.
On the Indian side, T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav also faced action in this Asia Cup. The ICC fined him 30 percent of his match fee after Pakistan’s group-stage defeat on September 14. Unlike Rauf, his case was not linked to crowd behavior.
Naqvi’s decision to pay Haris Rauf’s fine showed strong support for the team. PCB officials said it will ease the burden on the players, who already face heavy pressure in the high-profile tournament. They added that Naqvi has stood by the squad in tough moments before as well.
