Karachi Braces for Third Monsoon Spell from Tomorrow

Published on

Karachi will welcome the third spell of monsoon rains starting tomorrow (Friday), bringing some long-awaited relief from the heat. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted light to moderate showers during this spell.

The PMD said Karachi will stay cloudy and humid throughout the day. A light drizzle at night might bring some coolness. The city’s maximum temperature can reach 35°C, while humidity stands at 69 percent. The Met Office added that southwesterly winds are blowing at 11 kilometres per hour.

Other regions in the country will also experience wet weather as Karachi prepares for monsoon rain. PMD warned that Kashmir, Islamabad, the Pothohar region, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan may receive intermittent rain, wind, and thunderstorms in the next twelve hours. It also predicted scattered heavy rainfall, with very heavy showers possible at some places.

Central and southern Punjab, as well as northeastern and southern Balochistan, may see isolated rain, gusts, and thunderstorms. PMD advised travellers and commuters to stay alert for possible local disruptions due to showers.

Morning temperature readings showed Islamabad and Quetta at 24°C. Lahore recorded 28°C, Karachi 30°C, Peshawar 26°C, Gilgit 18°C, Murree 14°C, and Muzaffarabad 23°C.

Across the border, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir will also see cloudy skies with chances of rain, wind, and thunderstorms.

The forecast includes Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramula. Morning temperatures were Srinagar 18°C, Jammu 28°C, Leh 11°C, Pulwama and Anantnag 17°C, Shopian 16°C, and Baramula 21°C.
