Hollywood action star Tom Cruise will receive an honorary Oscar at the upcoming annual Governors Awards hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The event will take place on November 16 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Ovation Hollywood.

Actor Debbie Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas will also be honoured with Honorary Oscars, while music legend Dolly Parton will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

Academy President Janet Yang said, โ€œTom Cruiseโ€™s incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunt community has inspired us all.โ€

Tom Cruise remains one of the most successful actors in Hollywood history. He played a major role in reviving the box office during the COVID-19 pandemic with Top Gun: Maverick.

Throughout his career, Tom Cruise has received Oscar nominations for Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia.

His other notable films include the Mission: Impossible franchise, Interview With the Vampire, Eyes Wide Shut, Vanilla Sky, Risky Business, and A Few Good Men.

The Academy presents Honorary Oscars to recognise lifetime achievement and exceptional contributions to the motion picture arts and sciences or outstanding service to the Academy.
