YouTube star MrBeast, Jimmy Donaldson, has found his better half and the internet can’t help but celebrate. The internet sensation shared in an interview with People that he proposed to his girlfriend, author Thea Booysen, on Christmas Day in front of their families.
A Surprise Proposal During the Holidays
Thea Booysen described the sweet moment:
“We were opening presents, and then for the very last present he asked me to close my eyes because it was a surprise. Both our parents were there to celebrate the holiday and watched on as I, of course, said yes.”
MrBeast explained how he wanted to make the proposal special:
“I was trying to think of the best way to catch her off guard. Thea is really close to her family, so I wanted to make sure that they were included in this momentous occasion.”

A Relationship Built on Connection
The couple met in 2022 through a mutual friend during MrBeast’s trip to Thea’s home country, South Africa. After a flirtatious dinner conversation, Thea returned home to find a direct message from him.
He wrote to her about reading her upcoming book, The Marked Children, sparking a relationship that blossomed over time.
By 2023, MrBeast was ready to propose, but Thea asked him to wait until she completed her master’s degree in human cognitive neuropsychology at the University of Edinburgh.
Low-Key Proposal, Intimate Wedding
While MrBeast is famous for his extravagant stunts, he wanted the proposal and wedding to be personal. The couple is planning a small, private ceremony surrounded by their closest loved ones.
“This will definitely be more family and friends — definitely more private,” MrBeast said.
Thea added, “We’re thinking of doing it somewhere on an island where we’re far away from just about everybody. We’re not going to try and have a big, extravagant wedding. It’s going to be nice, but it’s certainly going to be intimate (with) close family and friends.”
