Word on the street is that Volkswagen might be letting go of their iconic ‘Beetle’! As of now, there is still a debate going on of whether this being a true or a false statement.
Earlier, Frank Welsch, R&D boss for Volkswagen had confirmed at Geneva Motor Show that there will be no replacement for the VW Beetle, however, there was also a rumour that the company might introduce an all-electric Beetle too!
There’s no word on whether Volkswagen will bring back the Beetle in the future, but considering it’s done it once before, we don’t see why it couldn’t happen again, should the market demand it.
“Two or three generations is enough now,” – Frank Welsch
He added that the car was “made with history in mind but you can’t do it five times and have a new new new Beetle.”
VW Beetle’s HistoryThe VW Beetle began back in 1938. It reached its pop icon status, during the 1960s and 70s. It even became the star of its own movie series: Disney’s “Love Bug” and was featured in Herbie Fully-Loaded featuring Lindsay Lohan.
Back in 2003, Volkswagen decided to stop production. But the Beetle didn’t die back then. It was simply in hibernation. In 2014, Volkswagen announced the Beetle was making a comeback with an upgrade.
“We can appeal to a younger demographic who want their cars to be modern, but by putting in the vintage feel, we can appeal to the older demographic who are nostalgic for the vehicle,” Kerry Deutsch, September 2014
