The legendary classical singer Ustad Fateh Ali Khan passed away yesterday in the afternoon at the age of 82. He leaves behind a legacy that is unmatched by any, and has created a void that will not be fulfilled.
Master of the Khayal genre, Khan was born into a family of divine vocalists, the Patiala Gharana. He is survived by his sons Rustom and Sultan who teach classical singing in Islamabad and Lahore. He was also uncle to classical and rock singer Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan.
There was no comparison to the Ustad’s soul-stirring style of singing, he had a melodious voice with expertise in ‘Khyal’ and fluency in over 400 ‘Raags’.
