Shalwars

The return of any fashion fad always extends an opportunity for fashionistas to shake things up. Whenever any old and long-lived trend makes a comeback, it always brings a new twist along with it. Doing one thing the same way is simply not what fashion divas do!

Nowadays, the trend of wearing shalwars is peeking from different corners and we reckon, it will dominate the fashion scene for a long time. There is no denying that skinny pants and leg-hugging jeans always hold a special place in our heart, but in this season of scorching heat, we all crave a more relaxed silhouette and will definitely opt for our beloved traditional style staples shalwars.

Designers and fashion houses have already gauged the return of this trend and are now bringing shalwars- the old school sophisticated style to the fore.

Fashion industry’s royalty, Feeha Jamshed always uses her designs to portray some aspects of our culture and tradition and when it is shalwars, it sure seems like it’s her favourite apparel piece ever. Her shalwars with quirky prints make them look just so chic.

Top Designers Embrace The Return of Shalwars

Ace designer Nida Azwer also showed a sneak peek of her upcoming lawn collection and has incorporated a really edgy version of shalwars in her collection called wrapped shalwars.

This year’s lawn collection showcases frolicking floral prints with geometric prints and birds; the Nida Azwer’s signature laces, gold screen prints and emboss work with soft neutrals in ivory, beige and light pinks to bright sea green, blue, red and rusts are perfect to be donned.

Besides Nida Azwer, a number of other designers including Nilofer Shahid for House of Ittehad, Ayesha Khurram, Farah Talib Aziz who are about to launch their lawn collections are opting for this twisted cut to embrace the return of shalwars.

This wrapped version of dhoti shalwars is not only in for casual wear, but they are also going strong for formal and wedding wear. Many of Sameen Kasuri and Misha Lakhani’s creations, donned by their clients comprise of these tulip shalwars.

One of the best things about shalwars is that they are super comfortable, especially for the summer season. The super-wide and roomy silhouette makes this bottom our favourite piece to don, along with making a style statement when going out.

Moreover, you can pair them up with short kurtas as well as long shirts. A well-tailored dhoti shalwar with a flare and resemblance to harem pants can also be styled with crop tops and t-shirts.
