HR Consultant, Interwood

1. This International Women’s Day, I pledge…
To challenge stereotypes and biases that exist regarding women in general.

2. Across the organizational landscape, I want to see more female representation in…
Board of Directors of companies.

3. One stereotype about women that should be busted this year is…
That women still have primary responsibilities for housework and childcare. It cuts into the time they could be spending on their careers. The reality is that cooking and cleaning are gender-neutral activities.

“Interwood is encouraging gender equality and women empowerment by ensuring a good male to female ratio especially in sales as well as in the worker category at our factory.”

4. My organization is encouraging gender equality and women empowerment…
By ensuring a good male to female ratio especially in sales as well as in the worker category at our factory. Interwood Mobel has recently appointed a female corporate sales head from within, proving that females are given an equal opportunity to grow within the organization. We already have female representation on the Board and as HoDs in Human Resources, Marketing and Design.

5. I believe women can fight gender inequality at their workplaces…
By creating an enabling environment for each other to develop and excel in; by initiating female-friendly policies, a safe work environment, and by representing their organization in various gender equality initiatives taking place in the areas of education, women’s healthcare, etc.

6. As for men, they can help reduce gender bias at home and work…
Through support, which starts at home. Men who support women at home are most likely to support them at the workplace as well. A spouse’s emotional support motivates a woman to push herself and pursue her goals. Sharing domestic responsibilities, encouraging further education and helping with childcare are some ways.

7. My message to young aspiring women looking to start a career in 2022 is…
Have a mindset and willingness to embrace change. Avoid complaining when you are faced with a task you do not like as it is an opportunity for you to learn the ropes and gain trust and confidence from your colleagues. However, be wary of being pushed around or talked down to or the use of sexist language. Most importantly, amplify other women and celebrate each other’s success.
