As the anti-encroachment drives continue all across Karachi, Supreme Court Monitoring Bench has ordered the removal of all commercial activities from military land.

A meeting was held on Saturday at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry. The bench had made the decision to remove all businesses as a final verdict in the discussion.

The 3.5-hour long meeting was attended by the military, railway department, senior officials of the Sindh government, KMC, SBCA, and others.

Furthermore, the monitoring bench has further ordered to take back Karachi Master Plan Department from Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).

During the meeting, the decision to eliminate all parking Rashid Minhas Road was made. Immediate demolition of Nuplex Cinema located on Rashid Minhas Road was also taken as it stands on the military ground.

Other restaurants and tables and chairs set on the footpath have also been ordered to be removed with immediate effect. Reportedly, the parking areas in front of buildings on Korangi Road will also be removed.

Demolition for the walls built in front of Dolmen Mall on Sea View Road in Clifton was also ordered. The court ordered all the relevant departments to cooperate with the Sindh government in this regard.

Operations against encroachment are to be continued all around the city. It was also ordered to remove encroachments from parks in Karachi must be cleared within a week. Charity and Organizations can no longer operate on footpaths.

Accordingly, KMC has removed 90% of the encroachments, the municipal commissioner informed the court.

As of now, Nueplex Cinema’s spokesperson declined to comment. A meeting is to be held at the DHA office and a collective statement will be issued afterward.
