“Star Wars: The Force Awaken” becomes the highest-grossing movie of the year. The movie on the opening weekend at the US and Canadian box office earned $238 million in sales, shattering the Jurassic World record that earned $208.8 million earlier this year, Industry monitor Rentrak revealed on Sunday.

According to the Hollywood Reporters, the movie Star Wars has managed to earn an estimated $517 million on a global scale, whereas the movie stands on the second place after Jurassic World which earned $524.9 million worldwide in the first week of its release.

According to the reports, the movie on its first domestic screening on Thursday acquired the title of the highest-grossing domestic opening night by earning $57 million, whereas the Friday sales accounted to be $102.5 million.
