The most peaceful sit-ins in the history of Pakistan have been conducted in the past two months. But to what avail? The government is still in power and seemingly there is a dispute raised between the two opposing party leaders, i.e. Imran Khan and Tahir-ul-Qadri.

While Tahir-ul-Qadri announced an end to his and his follower’s sit-in last night, Imran Khan has advised his followers otherwise.

Mr. Qadri concluding his sit-in addressed his followers in these words,

This sit-in has achieved its purpose; it has awakened the nation and played its role in the path of revolution,

Although Mr. Qadri announced his threat towards the government, mentioning that the sit-in’s will now be conducted throughout the country if the demands are still not met, he stated it as the “next stage of the revolution“.

Right after the announcement, supporters of Mr. Qadri were seen packing up their tents and bidding each other farewell.

Have a look at Qadri’s announcement to end his sit-in:

The emotions of Qadri’s supporters were seen as they shed tears as their leader asked them to “pack their bags and return home with a victorious spirit”.

On the other hand Mr. Khan’s stand against the government cannot be undermined, even after 69 days of peaceful hardship he is still standing tall, along with his loyal supporters and is challenging to continue the sit-ins till the audit of votes is initiated.

In his statement Mr. Khan stated,

I will not leave this container until Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif resigns and an independent investigation into rigging in the 2013 elections is held.”

His words while addressing national assembly speaker Ayaz Sadiq were,

How long will you delay recounting of votes in your constituency? I will not leave this place until the audit of votes starts.

The element of surprise was when Mr. Khan’s outcry made the ban of ARY its target, as he vowed to protest in front of PEMRA’s offices if the authorities don’t reconsider their decision of cancelling the license of ARY News Channel, his words on the issue were,

The rulers have dented democracy by banning the channel.
