Coca-Cola has been announced as the official Rugby World Cup 2015 sponsor, at an event in London, marking the two decade relationship between the soft drink giant and the sports event.

The deal entails Coca-Cola as the sports drink, soft drinks and water supplier at the Rugby World Cup event next year. The brands Glacéau smart water and Powerade sports drink will be made available to the players from the world’s 20 best rugby teams under the agreement.

The upcoming tournament campaign will introduce Brian O’Driscoll, former Irish rugby player, as the brand ambassador. He has captained both the British and Irish Lions and is delighted to be a part of the tournament. O’Driscoll was quoted saying, “I’m really excited to be working with Coca-Cola for Rugby World Cup 2015 and see this as an opportunity to bring the game to a wider audience. As a former professional sportsman, I’m a passionate believer in the importance of leading an active, healthy lifestyle and understanding the benefits of physical activity. I believe we can really harness the excitement of rugby in 2015 to inspire people to move more.”

The Coca-Cola General Manager for the tournament, Paul Dwan and World Rugby Head of Commercial, Broadcast and Marketing, Murray Barnett are equally looking forward to the sponsorship agreement too. During the event in London, Dwan shared his enthusiasm about the event in the following words, “Rugby World Cup 2015 looks set to be the biggest ever; we’re delighted to be a part of it to celebrate the excitement and passion the tournament will generate.
