The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority is on a roll this year, after taking in account complaints, the regulatory body strikes again and this time it strikes again on Geo TV imposing a fine of PKR 0.1 million.
The press release released by PEMRA states that the restriction was put into place as the channel had aired derogatory remarks on politicians and parliamentarians which is deemed to be against the law.
In a recent TV program ‘Jirga’ on Geo hosted by Salim Safi, Ijaz Mehmand, and Nisar Mehmand called Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Maulana Fazlur Rehman traitors,” and a notice was issued by the authority on 17th February, asking Geo for an explanation.
This is not the first time the Pakistani channel has come across strict action by PEMRA. Earlier, the Geo Pakistan Morning Show was banned due to the indecent content being aired.

Apart from the fine, PEMRA directed the channel to air an apology on their show addressed to Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Mahmood Khan Achakzai on May 13th. The management was also asked to display the apology on text during the show.
