A Pakistani girl, Hamna Zubair, has run the New York City marathon, to raise money to fund an academic year for 200 children at a TCF-run school. Zubair ran a 26-mile marathon to help raise money for a primary school located in Saleh Muhammad Goth, Bin Qasim Town, Karachi.

The NYC Marathon guarantees prizes worth USD 705,000 with potential time bonuses. First place winners in men and women categories will each be awarded USD 100,000.

While talking about the school in need of funds, Hamna stated that the particular campus has a 47% female enrollment and is expected to see an increase in the number of students from 176 to 194 next year.

Hamna, currently employed at Dawn, draws inspiration from her parents. Her late father, Zarrar Rahim Zubair had worked in the education sector for over 30 years and had been a staunch supporter of running for a cause.

Combining her father’s two passions, Hamna hopes to raise enough money to fund the TCF School via the fundraiser website Indiegogo. “Every dollar donated will motivate me to take that extra step towards the finish line – I’m counting on your support!”
