Zindagi TV by Zee Entertainment was launched in India in June 2014 for the sole purpose of airing international dramas.

Since then, a number of hit Pakistani dramas have been aired on the channel, with a massive positive response, from audience and celebrities alike, who prefer Pakistani dramas not only over Indian dramas but also over Bollywood movies.

Last week, the channel started airing, Syra Yusuf and Sanam Saeed starrer, Mera Naseeb, which was received with a positive response yet again.

However, soon after its airing, the Indian novelist, Chitra B. Divakaruni, accused the writers and producers of the hit drama serial of plagiarism on social media networks. She claims that the story has been adapted from her popular novel, Sister of My Heart.

The Lux Style Award Winner for Screenplay, Mera Naseeb was first aired in Pakistan in 2011 at Hum TV and was claimed to be an adaptation of a novel with the same name, written by Samira Fazal.

Following Divakaruni’s claim on the story, the owner of rights of her novel, Manish Goswami has sent a letter to the Zindagi channel to take the drama off air and is planning to take legal action against Samira Fazal, who is currently residing in USA.

Storyline of both, Sister of My Heart and Mera Naseeb, seem quite similar, revolving around two cousins born on the same date, raised by their aunt and mothers and the problems they face before and after marriage.

There has been no response from Hum TV or Samira Fazal on this controversy.
