Pakistan beats India and Bangladesh in the Green Index

India and Bangladesh have beaten Pakistan in pollution. India stood at 24th most polluted country, where Bangladesh stood on the 10th rank. Pakistan, although not the greenest of all, is placed after 30 countries in ‘Least Green’ around the world. Afghanistan is the 5th most polluted country.

The Global Environment Performance Index (EPI) has released its rankings of the Environmental Performance Index for the year 2014.


India has slipped 32 ranks in the global (EPI) for the year 2014 to rank on 155 whereas its capital ‘Delhi’ has earned un unwanted accolade of topping the list the world’s most polluted cities.

This comparative study comprise on the 178 countries of the world, based on all nine environmental parameters. The study is released earlier this month under Yale University (US).

Pakistan has a total ‘Green’ score of 34.58 out of 100. This study by Yale also estimates some of the most significant economic indicators of Pakistan – like Pakistan’s total population to 179.16 million people as of 2014, with a land area of 797, 495 square kilometers. Pakistan’s Total GDP $1,260, which equals to around 1,32,747 Pakistani Rupees.

As for the Air Quality the twin countries (India and Pakistan) both score on the lowest end of the countries in the world, but for the Health Impacts – Pakistan scores much better than India on the 102 rank where India stands at 127th.

As for the ‘Water and Sanitation’, Pakistan and India again ranks quite similar. Pakistan ranks one rank better than India on 123rd position.
