This Cooking Oil Ad Is Being Criticized For Normalizing Body Shaming
Controversial advertising is a thing and has been a part of our industry for as long as we can remember. Despite trying to shatter the stigma and advocating for body positivity, brands have still a long way to go. In a recent instance, a renowned cooking oil brand launched its new ad, and they are taking body shaming to a whole new level.
The Cooking Oil Ad
The concept is based on a kid who loves himself some roadside snacks, and who doesn’t? The ad starts with a kid asking his mother for a plate of kachori. Portrayed as a foodie, he asks for a second, then a third plate. However, he immediately starts complaining about a stomachache.
The scene follows the dramatic entry of two inspectors who questions the quality of the cooking oil used by the vendor. Saying a few things about the quality of oil and how consumers should only consume food cooked in Meezan Oil, they blame consumers for not knowing what type of oil is used in roadside cafes.
However, what took the attention of social media was the closing comment which stated,
“Meezan main bana khana khilaen, is bachay ko burger se insan banaen.”

Adeel Chaudhry noticed these things when he visited a famous restaurant for a buffet. He saw two men who were overloading their plate beyond the plate’s capacity. We all know people who do that or might even be those people ourselves! When Chaudhry asked them why they are doing so, he replied saying, “my friend is giving a treat, paise toh poore karne hain.”

It is estimated that we are wasting 40% of our food nowadays, a lot more than our average rate. Why does the percentage climb up in Ramadan? Pakistan is a country that has more than 40% of people living below its poverty line yet those on top continue to waste food this extravagantly.

Every famous car brand, which you may have heard of, has numerous vehicles under its belt. Over the decades, many cars have been added to the brands’ roster. Where we only used to see roadsters or jeeps, we now see sedans too. Some of the most famous brands in history are Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, Chrysler, Jaguar, Rolls Royce and many more. However, there have been times when such luxury brands have come out with vehicles that were better off on paper.
By paper, we mean that the vehicles should not have come into production. At the time of their release, they were hyped up a lot and even used in pop culture areas. However, when the public actually got to drive them, they realized that these luxury cars were not all that they were talked up to be. They went down in history as some of the worst cars to be put on the street. While many may have been forgotten, some continue to live on, as pop culture icons or sources of memes!
1. Delorean DMC-12:
Speaking of pop culture icons, you must have heard the name of this vehicle. It was a French brand that came out with this vehicle in 1981. While it may have attracted some people with its design, it had a massively underpowered function. The V6 engine on it barely managed to produce 130hp. It was quite overpriced and its gull-wing doors were probably the best part about the vehicle. While production stopped in 1982, we can thank ‘Back to the future’ for making this car into a pop culture icon.
Considering the sci-fi nature of the movie trilogy, the car’s design fits perfectly into it!
2. Cadillac Allante:
While the luxury brand is known for making impressive vehicles, this one may have been one of its lower points. The vehicle was released to compete with the Jaguar and Mercedes counterparts of the era. However, it was quite overpriced and did not seem to justify the price. It produced a measly 295 horsepower for the front wheel luxury sports that it was hyped up to be. Performance-wise, many rivals ranked higher.
3. Aston Martin Lagonda:
When we think of this luxury brand, our mind immediately goes to the James Bond movies. The DB models of Aston martin are some of the most famous in those films. While the car was in production for 14 years, it only sold about 700 units. Its design and technological features could not save it from being a bust on the market.
4. Cadillac Cimarron:
This car has actually made the list of ‘Worst cars ever made’. While it was shown off as a luxury car, it was nowhere near one. It seemed more like a rebranded Chevrolet Cavalier, which in itself was not an impressive car. It produced about 86hp on a four cylinder engine. This car is a prime example of engineering gone awry.
5. BMW I3:
This vehicle was manufactured with a lot of hope because it promised a lot to the people. There were many people who thought that this car would have a lot to say on the EV market. After all, not many can shatter the electric barrier with ease. After a while, it seemed that the vehicle did quite poorly. Its unconventional style went unappreciated and its limited range threw it way behind the line.
6. Mercedes Benz SLC:
While it may be the oldest brand out there and one of the titans, it also has made some errors. While it produced a respectable amount of horsepower, the power was not the only domain in competition. After a while, it was unable to keep up with the Jaguar F-type or the BMW Z4.
7. Ferrari Mondial 8:
This is one of the best Italian brands to have ever been introduced. Ferrari cars stand out as one of the most unique ones out there. However, this particular model could not stand up to the benchmark that Ferrari had set for itself. It weighed a lot (3500 pounds) and only produced 214hp. All that weight made it a slow race car, going from 0-60 in more than 8 seconds.

Nestlé Pakistan’s 2021 Creating Shared Value Report Sheds Light On Its Sustainability Initiatives
Nestlé Pakistan recently published its Creating Shared Value (CSV) Report for 2021, highlighting its sustainability agenda and commitments on climate action, sustainable packaging and water regeneration, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
Sharing Nestlé’s Creating Shared Value philosophy, Samer Chedid, CEO, Nestlé Pakistan, said, “CSV remains the fundamental guiding principle for how we do business. We are able to deliver value for our shareholders and the communities in which we operate through our focus areas – individuals and families, our communities, and the planet.”
“We believe that we will be successful in the long term by creating value for society, which is why our purpose, to unlock the power of food to enhance the quality of life for everyone, today and for generations to come, doesn’t just inspire our product offerings but also serves as the guiding star for our vision of sustainability,” Chedid added.
Nestlé’s 2025 Sustainability Roadmap focuses on four pillars, Climate Change; Sustainable Packaging; Water Regeneration, and Responsible Sourcing.
“We are working hard to achieve a waste-free future by ensuring that 100% of our packaging is recyclable or reusable by 2025 and remain committed to tackling climate change by reducing carbon emissions by 20% by 2025 and bringing them to net zero by 2050,” said Waqar Ahmad, Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability, Nestlé Pakistan.
Nestlé Pakistan also introduced paper straws across its entire ready-to-drink product range. The initiative has eliminated over 400 million plastic straws in 2021 alone, marking a breakthrough in its sustainable packaging transformation journey.
Nestlé Pakistan continued with the Clean Gilgit and Hunza Project in partnership with Gilgit-Baltistan Waste Management Company and the Karakoram Area Development Organization facilitating the collection and recycling of more than 200 tons of plastic. The project focuses on waste segregation and a recycling system to achieve a waste-free future and promote sustainable tourism in the region.
Nestlé is also proud to have continued to drive engagement to eliminate packaging waste with relevant stakeholders from the platform of CoRe (Collect & Recycle) – an alliance of like-minded organizations that will help move toward a circular economy.
Preserving water resources is part of Nestlé’s legacy, while building on this heritage, Nestlé launched its new commitment called the Water Pledge in 2021 which builds on existing water stewardship efforts under the umbrella of Caring for Water-Pakistan (C4W-Pakistan) initiative launched in 2017. Under C4W, drip irrigation on 198 and installation of smart soil sensors on 455 acres has collectively helped an estimated water saving of 380,000 m3 of water, in line with UN SDG 6 and 17.
In line with the bold commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Nestlé Pakistan helped farmers import high yield cows, which will improve farm efficiency by giving more milk per animal, thus reducing carbon emissions. Nestlé also planted 60,000 moringa trees, which have great carbon sequestration ability, in its daily value chain. Nestlé Pakistan also contributed to the installation of solar energy systems at dairy farms to encourage farmers to switch to renewable energy and helped with the installation of biogas digesters, which will reduce emissions resulting from cow dung.
