Clue To Mystery Behind Brilliant ‘Super-Agers’

US researchers think they’re getting closer to understanding why certain old people preserve exceptional cognitive abilities on par with those of others 30 years younger.

According to recent research published in The Journal of Neuroscience, these exceptional “super-agers” have bigger nerve cells in the parts of the brain that control memory.

It’s possible that the octogenarians were born that way, or that as they aged, their neurons changed in a different way from those of others.

Dementia

More research is required, which might uncover novel dementia-fighting strategies.

Researchers are particularly interested in learning how long-term brain health may be impacted by alterations in nerve cells. Do they provide any protection against ageing or are they only a sign of superior mental health?

Finding out what prevents dementia and maintains cognitive function is the main goal of the SuperAging Research Program at Northwestern University in Illinois, which has been underway for more than ten years.

Participants must be above 80, have an excellent memory, be open to undergoing a variety of exams and tests, and consent to donating their brains to research after death.

Researchers have previously deduced, based on prior studies utilising MRI scans, that the brains of so-called super-agers resemble and function more like that of a 50-year-old than an 80-year-old.

The entorhinal cortex, a part of the brain associated with memory, is the subject of the most recent studies, which are based on postmortem exams.

Six superagers, seven “cognitively average” octogenarians, five individuals with early-stage Alzheimer’s, and six younger donors who passed away from illnesses unrelated to the brain were also evaluated. They discovered that the super-agers in this area of the brain had larger, healthier neurons than the rest. They also seem to be less likely to develop the aberrant protein buildups known as tangles that are normally found in the brains of Alzheimer’s sufferers.

Though the precise origin of Alzheimer’s disease is not yet known, there are a number of factors that may raise the risk. While some, like age and heredity, cannot be changed, lifestyle choices like quitting smoking, adopting a healthy diet, and engaging in regular exercise might reduce the risk.

The meta-owned app Instagram has landed a new feature called ‘Notes’. Needless to say, the feature didn’t sit well with a majority of the users, and here’s a way to remove it. So, if you are in the same boat, follow our guide to remove the Instagram notes that appear annoyingly in your DM section.

The new feature to share a 24-hour status with your friends has been tested by Meta for months now. However, the feature was officially launched in the USA and other countries with the app’s latest update on 13th December. The new feature lets you share your thoughts with your followers. A note can comprise a maximum length of up to 60 characters using a combination of text and emojis.

You can also essentially reply to a note by clicking on the text and it will land your reply straight to the DM section of the follower.

How To Mute Instagram Notes

Luckily there’s a way to mute Instagram notes the same way you can mute Instagram stories on your social media account. However, the feature isn’t an official update but more of a hack that lets you do the same thing.

  1. Open your Instagram account and go straight to the DM section of your account.
  2. On the top of the page, you can find the notes from your followers where the online followers are usually visible.
  3. Long press on the note and you can see a menu tab appearing.
  4. The ‘Mute Notes’ option appears in the section.
  5. You can click on the option to mute the notes from the specific follower.
  6. Now you won’t be able to see any notes from a muted account.
  7. If you wish to mute more notes you will have to do so individually for all followers.

However, if you want to leave a note for your followers just head to the inbox page, tap Notes, and press ‘Leave a note’. Follow by typing your message in the ‘Share what’s on your mind’ section. You can also choose to share a Note with all the followers who you follow back or just your close friends.

Generation has started a much-needed talk to discuss the importance of Nikkah. While the institution of marriage doesn’t give the most important element of the wedding its due importance, Generation has started the talk in collaboration with the Centre of Human Rights UCL. The initiative is brought about to spread awareness about the Nikkah and how certain elements of it are casually neglected even though they should be rightfully accepted.

The Nikkahnama & Its Clauses 

The Nikkahnama is one paper that legally announces the union of the bride and groom. This paper also signifies the contract based on mutual understanding between both parties. However, when it comes to reading and signing the Nikkahnama, it is often taken casually because firstly, most people don’t have enough information about their rights and how they should be the ones to make amendments to the clauses. Secondly, even if they do, they tend to keep quiet because the patriarchal norms tend to raise a lot of eyebrows and hence the bride tends to stay quiet.

However, just like any other contract Nikkahnama should be critically analyzed and research must be done beforehand to ensure that you have all the necessary information to make additional adjustments if need be. Generation is also making sure to spread awareness amidst the wedding season so that the information prevails.

The Nikkah Officiate

Officiating the nikkah is another main component of the wedding ceremony. Section 5 of the Muslim Family Law Ordinance 1961, refers that the solemnizer and officiater of the nikkah can be anyone regardless of their gender. There are no restrictions on women officiating marriages in Pakistan.

The campaign is also highlighting the difference between the Nikkah Khwan and Nikkah registrar. According to this, the Nikkah registrar is a public servant who is granted a license and is appointed by the relevant Union Council.

Amidst the ongoing wedding season, this campaign highlights the much-needed attention to the marriage contract and how rights must be granted to both the bride and groom before they are unified in an eternal bond. Both the bride and groom must go through the Nikkahnama carefully and ensure that their rights are protected within the Nikkahnama.

The sports extravaganza started with controversies around human rights, the treatment of migrant workers in Qatar, and the country’s position on LGBT rights. Although, Argentina bounced back strongly after that game, and is currently slated to battle Croatia in the semifinal tonight, however, their loss against Saudi Arabia will be remembered as one of the biggest upsets of modern times.

Cameroon 1-0 Brazil

Five-time champions Brazil enters every World Cup as a favorite to win. however, this year their morale was dampened by the unexpected loss to an already knocked-out Cameroon. Cameroon scored their first goal on the international stage in over 20 years thanks to their captain Vincent Aboubakar, who scored a late goal after his team fought bravely for more than 90 minutes. Brazil was ultimately knocked into the quarter-finals after losing on penalties to Modric’s Croatia.

Tunisia 1-0 France

It’s still hard to believe what Tunisia did to France.  Wahbi Khazri of Tunisia stunned France in one of the most memorable upsets of this tournament so far. With this win, Tunisia became the first side to defeat France in a World Cup game since Germany in 2014. France is the defending champions but even they couldn’t escape the season of upsets. However, this loss woke France up, and they have dominated the games since then. They are set to face inspiring Morocco in the semifinals and are currently hot favorites to win the World Cup.

Japan Tops Two European Powers

Surprisingly, Japan finished first in a group that included Germany and Spain. Although neither of the two former champions has been able to fully rediscover themselves since their most successful incarnations in 2010 and 2014, there was the consensus opinion that these two will advance to the group stage. However, Japan rained on their parade, defeating both former champions 2-1, sending Germany home from group stages. Japan was also on the verge of upsetting Croatia in the round of 16, with their dominance in the field, however, Croatia once again prevailed on the penalties and halted Japan’s further progress in the tournament.

The draft for the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is all set to take place on December 15th 2022 in Karachi. The draft has also attracted 500 overseas players including Australians Matthew Wade and Aaron Finch — who have signed up for the players’ draft.

Supersonic Jets And Hydrogen-Powered Planes In The Future? Here’s What You Need To Know

Major airlines have placed orders for the newest superfast planes, heralding the dawn of a new era in supersonic travel. Boom Supersonic’s Overture planes, which American Airlines has committed to purchasing up to 20 of, are currently in development.

American Airlines has the option to purchase an additional 40 aircraft. United Airlines has placed orders for 15 planes and might buy 35 more. There are 130 airplanes in the pre-order backlog right now.

A New Era for the airline industry

The first era of supersonic passenger aircraft is coming to an end with the orders for Boom’s Overture aircraft, which come nearly 20 years after Concorde was retired. With a cruising speed of Mach 1.7, nearly twice as fast as the current fastest commercial aircraft, Overture claims to revive transatlantic trips in a fraction of the time required by subsonic aircraft.

The aircraft, according to Boom, will operate profitably on more than 600 flights throughout the world, making it more than simply a transatlantic workhorse. Up to 80 passengers will be able to board Overture, which will have a range of over 5,000 miles (8,000 kilometres). To spare people from hearing sonic booms, it will only fly supersonic over seas.

The Pandemic Effect

Since the epidemic, concerns have been raised regarding the necessity for a new generation of supersonic planes as requests for Zoom and Teams have replaced the need to travel across continents and oceans for corporate meetings. According to World Travel and Tourism Council research, corporate travellers purchased flights worth $1 trillion in 2019. Boom will be hoping that the Overture can succeed where Concorde failed by drawing enough passengers to support airline operations.

Introducing sustainability

According to Boom, one significant distinction between Concorde and Overture is that the latter will be fueled by sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs), which are now in the research stage and will be carbon neutral. The infographic that follows demonstrates how oil and domestic garbage may be recycled to create green aviation fuels. These are transformed into feedstock for making fuel. This is processed and combined with conventional jet fuel. According to AirBP, as compared to conventional fuels, employing SAFs may cut an aircraft’s lifespan carbon emissions by 80%.

Power-to-Liquids, a different method for producing clean jet fuel, uses electricity from renewable sources to drive electrolyzes that produce green hydrogen. Then, CO2 that was taken from the atmosphere is combined with this. The result of this procedure is the creation of synthetic kerosene aviation fuel from liquid hydrocarbons.
