As the excitement mounts for the upcoming PSL 9 matches at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, the city’s Traffic Police has unveiled a tailored traffic diversion strategy to ensure a smooth flow and ease congestion for attendees.

The second phase of PSL 9 matches, spanning from February 28 to March 18, prompted the traffic police to devise a specialized plan aimed at enhancing convenience and reducing traffic hassles around the stadium.

During match days, certain routes will experience restricted entry of heavy traffic to prioritize the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

The restricted routes include Sohrab Goth to Nipa, Liaquatabad No. 10 to Hassan Square, Peoples Chowrangi to University Road, Karsaz to the Stadium, Millennium to New Town, and Stadium Signal to Hassan Square.

To accommodate the influx of visitors, Karachi Traffic Police has marked specific parking areas. Those arriving from Karsaz can conveniently park at the PSB Coaching Centre/China Ground located on Sir Shah Suleman Road, accessible via Habib Ibrahim Rehmatullah Road, under the Stadium Flyover.

Likewise, visitors arriving from Millennium Mall can utilize the parking facilities at the same designated area beneath the stadium flyover, accessible through Stadium Road [Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi Road].

Former captain Mohammad Hafeez expressed his doubts about the impact of Imad Wasim in Islamabad United after their narrow defeat against Peshawar Zalmi in the ongoing PSL 9.

In a thrilling encounter at the Gaddafi Stadium, Peshawar Zalmi clinched victory against Islamabad United by 8 runs. Imad Wasim bowled one over and gave away 17 runs, meanwhile, he also failed with the bat, scoring one run.

Mohammad Hafeez, speaking on a local sports channel, raised concerns about Imad Wasim’s performance, questioning his effectiveness as both a batsman and a bowler.

Hafeez expressed his perplexity, stating, “I don’t understand Imad’s impact at all. As a bowler, as a batsman, he is nowhere in the PSL. There are higher expectations from Imad.”

Furthermore, Hafeez also commented on Faheem Ashraf’s dwindling impact in recent PSL seasons, highlighting his subdued performance in the match, where he managed just 1 run and remained wicketless.

“Faheem’s impact seems to have decreased over the past few PSL seasons. The total out-of-form performance of Faheem and Imad is dragging Islamabad United down from a bowling point of view,” Hafeez added.

Despite acknowledging Shadab Khan’s commendable bowling performance, Hafeez pointed out tactical errors made by Islamabad United during the match.

“Shadab bowled well, but he shouldn’t have saved his over. Overall, Islamabad is making some very bad tactical errors,” he concluded.

It’s noteworthy that Imad Wasim was traded from Karachi Kings to Islamabad United ahead of PSL 9, along with Hasan Ali, in a bid to bolster the team’s performance.

One of the most common complaints from AVP users is that their headsets developed a hairline crack down the middle of the front cover glass, despite the devices never being dropped or mishandled. However, the media has yet to cover this news; instead, users from Reddit were the first to report the issue.

Reddit users began sharing pictures and accounts of their broken AVP’s as soon as word of the vulnerability leaked out. While some customers reported that they discovered the break in the morning after placing the device in its case at night, others stated that the fracture happened when they left the device charging with the front cover on.

The problem has not yet been formally acknowledged or addressed by Apple, and the repairs are reportedly quite expensive. The deductible for a cover glass repair under AppleCare+ is $300, and if you are one of the unlucky people who never subscribed to AppleCare+, the repair alone will cost you $800. In the event of a complete replacement of the device, AppleCare+ will not cover it.

Reddit user inpehnite had this to say regarding the incident with their AVP device:

Like a few others, I just discovered a long crack in the front glass of my Vision Pro. It’s been sitting neatly in the Apple travel-case, and it’s been subject to very light use a couple of hours a day – I haven’t dropped it or similar, which should also be pretty evident from the rest of the glass being completely scratch and dent free.

Even though numerous reviewers subjected the device to an extensive durability test, it seems unlikely that mishandling of the device is the reason for the crack. This is further evident after watching Mr. Sam Kohl‘s video on the device, where he performs drop and bump tests numerous times, only to find the glass in pristine condition without a scratch.

According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BloombergNEF), Pakistan imported USD$1.11 billion worth of solar products from January to September 2023, equivalent to an estimated 4GW of modules. This coincides with the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) releasing framework guidelines in September 2023 to expedite power purchase agreements for solar projects and integrate solar onto public building roofs.

In this scenario, the modules would essentially cover their own costs within 2-3 years.

The adoption of solar is most prominent in major cities like Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore, driven by higher population density and increased awareness of solar module technology. Larger cities also benefit from multiple installers, providing a range of options, reflecting the growing interest and recognition of the benefits of solar energy in densely populated urban areas.

An unfortunate incident marred the thrilling PSL 9 clash between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators at the Multan Cricket Stadium, leaving the families of the Gladiators’ members distressed.

The families of players Mohammad Amir, and Umar Amin, as well as team director Moin Khan, found themselves forcibly removed from the VIP box at the stadium, creating a stir among spectators and team members alike.

The circumstances surrounding this incident remain mysterious, leaving questions about who orchestrated the removal. However, it is insulting for the families of players, who served Pakistan with dignity, to be treated in this manner.

Allegations surfaced of mistreatment and the use of foul language against Quetta Gladiators’ members’ families during the PSL 9 match against the home side of Multan, by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Multan, named Rizwan.

The franchise management asserted that the families were asked to vacate the box as the DC Multan stated that the VIP Box belonged to the district administration.

Following the match, Quetta Gladiators’ players and management staged a vehement protest in front of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials, denouncing the unacceptable behaviour of DC Multan.

Their protest aimed to draw attention to the unjust treatment meted out to their families during the match.

Quetta Gladiators appealed to Mohsin Naqvi, the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab and the Chairman of the PCB, as well as the government to take swift action against the intolerable conduct of DC Multan.

Meanwhile, the families were relocated to alternative accommodations, ensuring their safety and comfort amidst the unexpected turn of events.

Standard Chartered Pakistan posts record profit before tax of PKR 89.2bn

Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited, the country’s largest and oldest International bank announced its Annual Results for 2023 today.

The Bank delivered a record performance in 2023 with a Profit before tax of PKR 89.2 billion, which is 78 per cent higher than last year. Profit after tax registered a growth of 115 per cent to close at PKR 42.6 billion, highest ever since its incorporation.

On the asset side, the Bank achieved a milestone of crossing PKR 1.0 trillion in total assets, which grew 8 per cent from start of the year. On liabilities side, the Bank’s total deposits stand at PKR 720 billion. Current accounts registered a healthy growth of PKR 34 billion (up 10 per cent) since the start of the year and comprise 50 per cent of the deposit base.

During 2023, the Bank contributed around PKR 63.5 billion to the national exchequer in lieu of direct income taxes and as a withholding agent of Federal / Provincial Tax Authorities.

With a strong Return on Equity (ROE) of 46.4 per cent for the year and Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 20.1 per cent, the Bank remains well positioned for future growth. On the back of robust performance and a well-capitalised balance sheet, the Board of Directors have recommended a final cash dividend of 25 per cent (PKR 2.50 per share). This is in addition to the 65 per cent (PKR 6.50 per share) interim cash dividend announced during the year, thereby taking the total dividend pay-out to a record high of 90 per cent (PKR 9.00 per share).

Mr. Rehan Shaikh, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited said: “We are incredibly proud to announce our exceptional performance in 2023, delivering highest ever profit for the franchise. These results are a testament to the work we have put in over the last few years to transform and grow our business. The results also signify the strong foundations, resilient and innovative business model, trust of our clients and the value that we are creating for our shareholders.

We aim to build on this success by taking action to deliver sustainably higher returns with a focus on driving income growth and improving operational leverage. We will continue to pursue simplification and digitisation of our business with a goal to further improve our productivity, client and employee experience and create capacity to reinvest in incremental growth initiatives.

Although the external environment remains challenging, we are committed to sustainable growth in our performance, whilst delivering innovative solutions for our clients and contributing positively to Pakistan’s progress.”

Highlights:

Overall revenue grew 72 per cent whereas client revenue increased by 78 per cent year on year with positive contributions from all segments. Moreover, prudent risk approach coupled with recoveries of bad debts led to a net release of PKR 163 million in loan impairments during the year.
