Pindi Stadium Will Not Feature Flat Pitches in PSL 9

pindi-stadium-will-not-feature-flat-pitches-in-psl-9

The Pindi Cricket Stadium, long criticized for its batting-friendly pitches, is set for a transformation to change the perception in the ongoing PSL 9.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued strict instructions to the stadium’s curators to craft “moderate” pitches, aiming to restore balance between bat and ball.

In recent years, the Pindi stadium has earned notoriety for its flat pitches, favoring batsmen and often leading to high-scoring encounters.

The two highest totals in the PSL history were scored on this ground in the same match. Multan Sultans scored 262 against Quetta Gladiators, while Quetta responded with 253. Additionally, Mulan Sultans’ Usman Khan also scored the fastest PSL century in that match in only 36 balls.

However, the PCB’s recent directive aims to change this narrative. They tasked the curators to create pitches, aimed at maintaining the balance of the game. Hence, the pitches will offer support to both bowlers and batsmen.

Crucially, the PCB has emphasized maintaining the size of the boundaries to ensure an even contest between bat and ball, enhancing the viewing experience for fans.

With five pitches designated for PSL 9 matches at the Pindi stadium, the upcoming clash between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi on March 2, 2024, promises to be a compelling start to this new era in Pakistani cricket.

Apple Stops Electric Car Project – Here’s Why

Apple AI Robot

Apple, a name linked with innovation, who holds a big chunk of the smartphone market, recently reported the indefinite closure of their Project Titan, which served as their electric vehicle initiative. Lets explore the history of the prestigious project, the difficulties encountered, and the ramifications of this choice for Apple and the car industry as a whole.

A Decade Long Challenge For Project Titan

Apple has been developing Project Titan, an ambitious effort to enter the automobile business with an electric vehicle (EV) that would revolutionize the market, for more than 10 years.Even before finding their footing, the project faced numerous challenges ranging from logistical problems to strategic realignments.

Apple Car Project

Apple set out on a bold mission to transform the automobile sector. Apple aimed to produce a luxurious, self driving electric vehicle to compete directly with automotive giant Tesla, with an intended price tag of around $100,000.

Project Titan embodied the company’s vision for the future of transportation, transcending beyond a mere vehicle. It aimed to merge Apple’s technological expertise with the automobile sector’s demand for innovation, particularly focusing on autonomous driving and innovative design. However, it was not destined to come to fruition.

Multiple leadership changes occur during the timeline of the project, as important figures such as Mr. Doug Field departed for other possibilities. During this period, they set their sight on a different goal altogether. Apple shifted its focus from developing a completely autonomous vehicle to creating self-driving software that could be integrated into vehicles manufactured by other automakers. But neither time, nor the situation was on their side for majority of the project.

Reports in 2022 indicated that Apple faced significant technical hurdles, casting doubt on the project’s profitability. The company had abandoned its initial goal of achieving a Level-5 autonomous system and had downgraded its objective to attaining at least a Level 2+ autonomous system, amidst a backdrop of uncertainty.

Fall Of The Titan And Aftermath

A difficult EV market and internal delivery challenges lead Apple to abandon the Project Titan in its entirety after over ten years of development! The business reallocated all of its extensive workforce and resources to the expanding sector of generative AI.The project’s termination resulted in numerous layoffs, although many employees transitioned to AI initiatives.Wearable’s, generative AI, and mixed reality are now part of Apple’s future expansion plans.

Both the general public and industry professionals have responded to the revelation; some have expressed astonishment, while others see it as a practical move by Apple to concentrate on its core competencies. People were quick to make jokes about the predicament as well.

Although the conclusion of Project Titan represents a major shift, it also gives Apple additional opportunities to build on its strengths in AI and other areas of technology, which might result in ground-breaking products that completely transform user experiences in the near future.

Titan Sub’s Audio Reveals Startling Banging Noises

Missing Submersible Ignored Safety Warnings For Titanic Expedition

Update (February 29th 2024):

In a shocking development, chilling new audio reveals the haunting “banging” sound detected during the search for the doomed Titan submersible. The search was initiated after the sub lost contact during an expedition to the Titanic wreck. The rhythmic banging sparked hopes of SOS signals from the five men aboard.

Former Navy Submarine Captain Ryan Ramsey described the sound as unusual and potentially human-made. The tragic incident claimed the lives of five individuals, including OceanGate Expeditions CEO Stockton Rush, British billionaire Hamish Harding, renowned French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, and his son Suleman.

OceanGate CEO, Stockton Rush, ignored safety concerns despite strong warnings before the loss of the titan submersible during the RMS Titanic Dive. The CEO of OceanGate Inc., Stockton Rush, was warned about potential safety problems years before his Titan submersible went missing while exploring the wreckage of the RMS Titanic.

He and four others, on the 22-foot vessel, were reported missing when they lost contact with a surface ship during a dive in the North Atlantic. Details have emerged about safety issues with the submersible, including a warning from experts that Rush apparently ignored.

David Lochridge And Complaints

In 2018, a former OceanGate employee and submersible pilot named David Lochridge filed a lawsuit against the company, claiming that passengers were being put in danger because OceanGate refused to conduct important safety tests on the submersible’s hull design. The lawsuit was later resolved outside of court.

During the same year, a group of experts sent a letter to Rush, warning him that his refusal to allow an independent entity to test the submersible’s safety was a serious problem. The letter stated that this testing was a crucial part of ensuring the safety of everyone on board submersibles. However, Rush dismissed the letter and chose to rely on the company’s own safety standards, claiming that industry regulations were hindering innovation. Despite concerns raised, Rush defended his position by stating that safety had its limits and that taking risks was necessary for progress. He argued that strict adherence to rules and regulations would hinder innovation.

Being Controlled by a $30 Video Game Console

It has also been noted that the Titan submersible used some inexpensive off-the-shelf components, such as a video game controller, despite selling seats for its Titanic expeditions at a high price. Furthermore, there were concerns about the submersible’s viewport, which was certified for lower depths than those required for exploring the Titanic wreckage. Overall, there were clear warnings about safety issues with the submersible that were disregarded, leading to the loss of the Titan submersible during the RMS Titanic dive.

Are Careless Drivers In Pakistan Ignoring Human Safety?

Source: Times of Oman

Are careless drivers in Pakistan turning a blind eye to human safety, or are they simply oblivious to the value of human lives? It’s a question that demands urgent attention, especially in light of recent tragedies that have rocked our communities and shattered countless dreams.

Lives Lost in the Blink of an Eye

Take, for instance, the gut-wrenching incident that unfolded in Karachi’s Nagan Chowrangi area, where the ruthless wheels of a speeding car crushed two homeless individuals sleeping innocently on a footpath. Picture the scene: the silent night shattered by screams of agony, the pavement stained crimson with the blood of the innocent. This isn’t just negligence; it’s a blatant disregard for the sanctity of life.

Reckless drivers kill four in separate incidents
Source: Express

But let’s not kid ourselves; this is not an isolated incident. It’s a symptom of a rampant epidemic of reckless driving that has plagued our streets for far too long. Last year, over 1,400 precious lives were lost and wasted out in road accidents in Karachi alone, with thousands more left injured and traumatised. These are not just numbers; they are human beings with dreams, aspirations, and loved ones left behind to mourn their untimely demise.

The human toll of carelessness

What’s worse is that these tragedies are often preventable. They’re not acts of God but the result of human folly and negligence. Overspeeding, reckless maneuvers, and blatant disregard for traffic laws have become the norm rather than the exception on our roads. It’s a deadly chai  of events that has turned our highways into killing fields, claiming lives with alarming regularity.

And the statistics don’t lie. According to recent reports, overspeeding and riding motorcycles without helmets are among the leading causes of fatalities on our roads. But it’s not just the speed demons who are to blame. It’s the truck drivers who treat our highways like their personal racetracks, the bus drivers who care more about schedules than safety, and yes, even the everyday commuters who diregards all rules with blatant confidence.

But here’s the kicker: it doesn’t have to be this way. We have the power to change course, to reclaim our streets as safe havens for all. It starts with each one of us taking responsibility for our actions behind the wheel. It means slowing down, obeying traffic laws, and showing respect for our fellow road users.

Bad road, no warning signs caused fatal Khairpur bus crash: police - Pakistan - DAWN.COM
Source: Dawn

Holding Ourselves Accountable

It also means holding authorities accountable for ensuring that our roads are safe and well-maintained. We need better infrastructure, stricter enforcement of traffic laws, and comprehensive road safety education programs to instill a culture of responsibility from a young age.

So, to all the reckless drivers out there, consider this your wake-up call. Human lives are not expendable. They are precious, irreplaceable, and worthy of protection. It’s time to put the brakes on reckless driving and prioritize human safety above all else. Because when it comes to life on the road, there are no second chances.

Women Who Earn More Than Their Husband Are Sharing Their Stories

The idea that women can earn more money than men goes against traditional beliefs that usually say men make more and are seen as more important. This is happening more often in different jobs, but some people still think it’s strange or not normal. Even though there’s been progress in making things fair for men and women at work, old-fashioned ideas and cultural norms might make people think it’s weird or wrong when women earn more than men.

Furthermore, societal attitudes towards women earning more than men can intersect with broader issues of gender roles and power dynamics. Some may view such situations as threatening to traditional gender norms, prompting resistance or pushback in certain social circles.

Some people might resist this idea because they strongly believe that men should be the main providers, which shows how complicated gender roles are when it comes to making money. As conversations about fairness between genders and having different kinds of people at work keep changing, it’s really important to talk about these stereotypes and challenge old-fashioned beliefs. This is key for making a society where everyone feels included and treated fairly.

There’s No One Close To My Batting Numbers: Azam Khan

mohammad-hafeez-slams-azam-khan

Islamabad United’s explosive wicketkeeper-batter, Azam Khan has expressed frustration over the lack of chances in the national team while claiming himself as the best T20 finisher in Pakistan currently.

Azam Khan emphasized on his unwavering dedication to the team’s cause during a candid conversation with a sports news outlet. However, he stated that he does not like to be a ‘scapegoat.’

“If it’s a team game and only an individual is made a scapegoat, it makes me a bit angry,” Azam Khan said.

The dynamic batter also pointed out that his exceptional batting average and strike rate at the crucial No. 5 and No. 6 positions make him the best finisher across the country.

“There’s no one close to my batting numbers at the No.5 and No.6 positions in Pakistan. In the last four years, only twelve batters have scored runs at an average of more than 25 and a strike rate over 145 in T20 cricket,” Azam highlighted.

Despite the frustration and setbacks, Azam remains steadfast in his commitment to represent Pakistan at the highest level.

But also expressed his readiness to explore lucrative league opportunities if denied consistent chances in the national squad.

“If I stand among these T20 greats in terms of average and strike rate and I am not given the confidence, cricket has become so fast-paced that it won’t be a financial problem for me.

“Because nowadays you get so many league cricket tournaments. I know I have this opportunity to make money but I want to play for Pakistan.”

It is noteworthy that since his T20I debut in 2021, Azam Khan has only featured in eight matches for Pakistan. He managed to score a meagre 29 runs at an average of 4.83.

Azhar Ali Criticizes Shaheen Afridi For Selfish Captaincy

shaheen-afridi-out-of-first-two-new-zealand-t20is

Former Pakistan cricket captain Azhar Ali didn’t mince words when assessing the captaincy of Shaheen Afridi during Lahore Qalandars’ turbulent run in the PSL 9. With the team languishing at the bottom of the points table after six consecutive losses, Azhar Ali pinpointed areas where Afridi’s captaincy fell short.

During a candid discussion on a local sports channel following Qalandars’ recent defeat to Multan Sultans, Azhar Ali emphasized the importance of team-first mentality in captaincy.

He urged Afridi to prioritize team objectives over personal preferences, suggesting unconventional strategies like opening the bowling with a spinner to shake things up.

“A captain should be willing to make sacrifices for the team’s greater good. Shaheen Afridi could have opted for a different approach, perhaps opening the bowling with a spinner to add variety and catch the opposition off guard,” Azhar remarked.

The seasoned cricketer also previously raised concerns about Lahore’s bowling performance, particularly in the absence of leg-spinner Rashid Khan, whose presence had provided stability to the team’s bowling lineup.

“I believe Shaheen Afridi’s captaincy and Lahore’s bowling have been exposed. The absence of Rashid Khan has left a void that is keenly felt, as he brought a level of confidence and control to the team’s bowling department,” Azhar elaborated.

Azhar Ali pointed out instances where he observed a lack of coordination between the bowlers and the captain. He also highlighted strategic decisions that appeared disjointed and ineffective.

As Lahore Qalandars grapple with their ongoing struggles in PSL 9, Azhar Ali’s insights shed light on the challenges facing the team.

Usama Mir Breaks Shahid Afridi’s Long-Standing Record

usama-mir-psl

In a remarkable turn of events that left cricket fans awe-struck, Multan Sultan’s leg-spinner, Usama Mir, etched his name in the annals of Pakistan Super League (PSL) history.

In a stunning display of spin bowling mastery, Mir became the first spinner to claim six wickets in a single PSL match, surpassing the legendary Shahid Afridi’s iconic record.

Shahid Afridi held the record for the best bowling figures by a spinner in PSL for his 5-7, which he claimed in the inaugural season of PSL in 2019. However, Usama Mir broke Afridi’s record while playing against the team led by Afridi’s son-in-law Shaheen Afridi.

The historic moment unfolded during the 14th match of PSL 9, where Multan Sultans clashed with Lahore Qalandars in a high-stakes encounter. Mir’s mesmerizing spell of 6/40 dismantled the Lahore Qalandars’ batting lineup, leaving them reeling and reinforcing Multan Sultan’s dominance in the league.

Notably, Mir became only fourth bowler to take a six-fer in PSL history, prior to him, Ravi Bopara, Faheem Ashraf and Umar Gul achieved the historic feat.

Mir’s journey to glory wasn’t without its challenges. After conceding 16 runs in his initial over, he showcased remarkable resilience and skill to orchestrate a stunning comeback. His strategic bowling and crucial breakthroughs turned the tide of the game decisively in favor of the Multan Sultans.

As Multan Sultans solidified their position at the top of the league standings, Mir’s six-wicket haul served as a testament to the team’s unwavering determination and prowess on the field.

For Lahore Qalandars, the defeat marked a continuation of their struggle in the tournament, with Mir’s brilliance adding to their woes.

Pakistan Studies No Longer Mandatory In Degree Programmes?

Ever wondered if Pakistan Studies has been shown the exit door from our beloved degree programs? Well, let’s dive into the latest scoop.

So, the word on the street was that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) might be giving Pakistan Studies the boot. But hold your horses! According to none other than the caretaker Federal Minister for Information, Murtaza Solangi, that’s just not the case.

Ministerial Assurance

In a recent Senate session, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed brought up the concern that Pakistan Affairs might be vanishing from the graduation-level syllabus. But fear not, because Minister Solangi swooped in like a superhero to clear the air. He assured everyone that the HEC hasn’t even hinted at such a move. Phew! Crisis averted, folks.

Solangi spilled the tea, stating that the HEC and the concerned ministry have been tight-lipped about axing Pakistan Affairs or any other course from the graduation syllabus. So, breathe easy, friends, because it looks like our favorite subjects are here to stay.

Academic Independence

But wait, there’s more! Solangi dropped another bombshell – universities are free birds, soaring autonomously within the boundaries of their own laws. So, even if the HEC wanted to shake things up, the universities have the final say. Talk about academic independence, am I right?

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. While Pakistan Studies might not be bidding us farewell, there’s a new kid on the block – a course on Pakistan’s ideology and Constitution.

But hold your applause because there’s more brewing in the pot. The HEC is cooking up a storm with stakeholders to whip up a two-credit-hour compulsory course for all undergrad programs. Can you smell the educational revolution in the air?

Academic Reforms

Of course, not everyone is celebrating just yet. Senators Walid Iqbal, Prof Dr. Mehr Taj Roghani, and the gang are rallying for the revival of Pakistan Studies. Their solution? Integrate the new kid, Ideology and Constitution of Pakistan, into the curriculum as an extra juicy chapter.

Nestlé Pakistan Initiates First Urban Forest Tree Plantation In Lahore

Nestlé has initiated its inaugural urban forest tree plantation project at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, Pakistan. This undertaking, part of Nestlé Cares initiative, aims to reduce carbon emissions and work towards achieving a net-zero status by 2050.

In collaboration with the Parks & Horticulture Authority (PHA) and Civil Aviation Authority, Nestlé Pakistan organized the event, which saw enthusiastic participation from Nestlé employees, students from Nestlé for Healthier Kids partner schools, and members of civil society.

Leading the volunteer effort, Jason Avanceña, CEO of Nestlé Pakistan, emphasized the importance of forests in combating climate change and preserving biodiversity. He stressed the need to counteract deforestation and urbanization by creating more sustainable environments.

Additional tree plantation activities are planned in Lahore, Kabirwala, and Sheikhupura as part of Nestlé’s strategy to restore forests, protect natural habitats, and promote sustainable livelihoods.

Aamir Ibrahim, Director of the Parks & Horticulture Authority, highlighted the significance of urban forests in improving air quality and expressed gratitude to Nestlé Pakistan and its employees for their support.

Nestlé Pakistan’s next tree plantation activity will take place at the Canal-Jalo Park junction, where 25,000 trees, including Arjun, Jaman, Pilkan, and Sukhchain species, will be planted. Subsequent plantations are scheduled for Sheikhupura and Kabirwala. The Nestlé Cares program encourages volunteer participation to support such initiatives.

Last year, Nestlé Pakistan committed to planting 100,000 trees by March 2024, a commitment fulfilled through collaborations with stakeholders and partners. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 13 and 15, focusing on climate action and life on land, respectively.
