Flooding has been reported in Karachi’s Coastal areas on Saturday owing to high tidal waves, amid the first spell of monsoon rainfall in the city.
According to reports, high tidal waves drenched coastal areas of Manora, Hawkes Bay and Sandspit.
The water from the tidal waves has entered in some residential areas as well as huts built along the beaches.
Scores of roads at Manora and Sandspit, have drowned under the water. The residents of affected areas are being evacuated to safer places.
The city authorities have imposed a ban over bathing and swimming in the sea under section 144.
Police personnel have been deployed along the city’s beaches to stop citizens from visiting beaches during rainy weather.
City authorities are imposing preventive measures along Karachi’s coast in months of June, July and August to avoid losses of life caused by high tidal waves in the harsh sea.
However, many areas of Karachi received rain early Saturday morning, bringing relief to the residents after a prolonged period of hot weather in the port city.
Light to moderate rains hit various parts including North Karachi, II Chundrigar Road, Saddar and their adjacent areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast intermittent showers accompanied by thunder throughout the day today after noon. The maximum temperature may rise to 31°C, while humidity remains high at 90%.
Winds are blowing from the northeast at a speed of 10 kilometres per hour, the Met Office said.

The body of another tourist swept away by a flash flood in the Swat River was recovered on Saturday, raising the death toll to ten, officials have confirmed.
The incident occurred early on Friday morning when a sudden flood trapped around 70 people, mostly tourists.
Rescue teams managed to save 55 individuals, while search operations continue for the remaining victims.
Rescue officials revealed that ten members of the same family were among those killed.
Their bodies have now been identified and returned to their hometowns via ambulances arranged by local authorities.
Two of the latest bodies were recovered downstream near Barikot.
According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, Civil Defence teams, local volunteers, and rescue staff are jointly handling the operation.
“Initially, it was assumed that the trapped individuals were close to the bank and could be pulled to safety with ropes,” he said.
“However, when the situation escalated, trained swimmers were deployed, resulting in the rescue of three or four individuals alive.”
The tragedy struck when families from Sialkot were having breakfast on the dry bed of the Swat River near the bypass.
Suddenly, a powerful flash flood surged through the area, submerging the riverbank and sweeping away those nearby.

Experts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department said the flash flood was caused by heavy rain and rapid glacial melt.
“This is not an isolated incident. We are witnessing more frequent and intense flash floods in northern areas, particularly during the peak summer months,”a climate specialist noted.
In response, local authorities have issued warnings to tourists to stay away from riverbanks during and after rainfall.
The Deputy Commissioner of Swat has instructed hotels and businesses near rivers to exercise greater caution after the Swat River tragedy.
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 says its teams will continue the search operation until all missing persons are found.

A heavy flood hit the Swat River early Friday, drowning several people. Rescue officials confirmed they recovered four bodies and launched operations across multiple locations.

A spokesperson for Swat Rescue 1122 said that strong floods rushed through the area and swept away multiple people. He added, “Two bodies have been found so far; the search for others is still going on, but high-level flood is stalling the operation.”

Eva Chen, a fashion week fixture and Met Gala regular, was also named on social media. Whoever the editor is, the fashion trends and the fashion industry will certainly see a big shift.

As the storm got worse, at least eleven people died in rain-related accidents across Pakistan. These deaths were caused by roof collapses, storms, and flooding across Hyderabad, Punjab, Gilgit, and Thehri.
In Hyderabad, two youngsters and 14 more were wounded when a madrassa’s roof fell during the rain. Six individuals lost their lives and twenty-five more were injured in several rain accidents in Punjab.
Five more people were hurt in Thehri when a house’s roof collapsed and a youngster died.
A girl also nearly drowned in the Nala Kargah Near Gilgit. Though she was saved, her aunt and mother died while trying to save her. The Met Office warned of more monsoon rain, strong winds, and dust storms. It also hinted at more possible seasonal nullah floods and low visibility brought on by southern dust storms.
Overnight, rain in Karachi waterlogged many regions. About 350 power feeders tripped, resulting in frequent citywide blackouts. Mayor Murtaza Wahab went through the struck regions like Defence, Clifton, South District, the Governor House, the Sindh Assembly, and the Supreme Court.
At the same time, in Islamabad, rainwater seeped through the roof of the High Court building, constructed barely two years ago.
Water collected underpasses in Rahim Yar Khan and caused transportation problems. Strong winds brought down signboards and trees in Khairpur, Larkana, and Padidan; rain lowered temperatures in Azad Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

On Thursday evening, Karachi experienced rain of various intensities across several parts of the city. The rain was light in some areas and very heavy in others. Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadid, Memon Goth, Shah Latif Town, Razzaqabad, and Bhens Colony all experienced rainfall.
The rain impacted other regions as well, including Saddar and nearby towns. Strong showers were witnessed in Steel Town, Pipri, Port Qasim, and Ghaffar Phatak as well as in the surrounding areas.
Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, University Road, Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, Hasan Square, P.I.B., Jail Road and the surrounding regions also experienced rain in Karachi. Other areas that experienced rain included Safura, Saadi Town, Gulzare Hijri, Scheme 33, Incholi, Gulberg, and Garden.
In Kathore, Gudap, and places near the M9 Motorway, thunderstorms accompanied rain. Near the airport as well, heavy showers were logged.
Other parts of Sindh also had changes in weather besides Karachi. Some towns experienced dust storms, while others had rain. Waterlogging caused by collected rainwater created problems in areas like Qasimabad, Latifabad, Thandi Sarak, and Auto Bhan Road.
The report made no direct remarks from officials. But the weather caused clogged drainage and road conditions issues in several areas. Rainwater took time to drain in several locations, making roadways challenging to cross.
Low-lying places with already poor drainage felt most of the impact of the rain. Additionally, traffic flow was also interrupted in some areas of the city.
The situation in Sindh cities showed that there is no proper system to drain water from rain. Although no injuries or serious damage were reported, the weather revealed metropolitan flaws in controlling sudden downpours and flash flood risk.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar, but it is much more than just the beginning of a new year. Along with Rajab, Dhul-Qa’dah, and Dhul-Hijjah, it is considered one of the four holy months.
War is forbidden in Muharram. Muslims all over the world, especially in Pakistan, India, Iran, and the Middle East, fast and engage in deep self-reflection. Weddings and celebratory occasions are usually postponed or cancelled in this month, for this is the month to reflect on your inner self, and engage in ibadah.
Furthermore, there are massive social gatherings dominated by sermons and religious teachings. 9th and 10th Muharram carry special significance and also serve as public holidays nationwide.
During these sacred days, all forms of public entertainment are suspended across many communities. For Shia Muslims in particular, the month holds profound religious significance.
They observe it with spiritual intensity, abstaining from music, refraining from wearing bright or festive clothing, and engaging in rituals such as matam (ritualistic chest-beating) to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S) and his companions.
Acts of charity are also central to the commemoration, with many setting up sabeels (stalls) to distribute free water, juices, and food to passersby as a gesture of remembrance and service.
The Battle of Karbala is at the Heart of Muharram
Much of the processions, traditions, and rituals performed in Muharram revolve around the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE, where Hazrat Imam Hussain bin Ali, grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his followers were brutally martyred.
Hazrat Imam Hussain and his followers rejected the tyrannical rule of Yazid, preferring peace and refusing to pledge loyalty. In the battlefield of Karbala, two armies, the good, led by Imam Hussain, and the evil, led by Yazid, met in a ferocious battle.
Yazid also cut the water supply for Hazrat Imam Hussain and his followers, and didn’t even allow it to the children. But he, Hussain, stood steadfast in the face of the hardship, for he knew that God was with him.
Despite a valiant effort, Yazid’s army overpowered and outnumbered Hazrat Imam Hussain and his followers. 72 innocent lives were lost, including innocent children, like Hussain’s infant son Ali Al-Asghar, and women. The massacre occurred on the tenth of Muharram (Ashura).
Ashura, thus, became a day of worldwide mourning for Muslims. It is a universal and perpetual reminder of the sacrifices Hazrat Imam Hussain and his loyal followers made for Islam.
Shia Muslims set up water stalls as a symbolic gesture to remind followers of the severe thirst Imam Hussain and his followers endured for days after Yazid’s army had cut off the water supply.

While Muharram is conventionally associated with Shi’a Muslims, all sects of Islam should consider it an important month for remembrance and self-reflection.
