NUST in top 100 Asian University

The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) has elevated to 4 spots as it maintains its top position in Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings 2020.

The annual ranking of educational institutes includes 500 Asian universities among which 29 universities are from Pakistan. The number of Pakistani universities has increased from last year which was 23.

Using 10 different indicators the ranking was constructed that includes the reputation of the academic and employer, faculty-student ratio, citation per paper, paper per faculty, staff with Ph.D., and internationalization.

The new entrants of Pakistani Institutes are; Islamabad (IIU), University of Sindh, Lahore College for Women University, University of Management and Technology, International Islamic University, and University of Central Punjab.

The other top 5 Pakistani universities in the ranking are Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) at 110, the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) at 111, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology at 151, and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) at 168.

Over the past consecutive years, NUST has not only improved in ranking but also maintained its top position in the list. The university improved its ranking by 83 in the 2020 list. This is great news as the education system in Pakistan has been the victim of negligence by the government.

Limited resources, no proper curriculum, and budget-cutting are a few ways the standard of higher education is compromised. Recently students from all over the country protested about the double standards and marched for their rights and demands.
