Muharram is a religiously-important month for Muslims across the globe. Due to the religious and historical importance of the month, 9th and 10th of Muharram are declared as holidays.

This provides people the opportunity to attend the sermons and pay their respects. However, with the current traffic epidemic that Karachi is facing, the government might want to add the 8th of Muharram on the list of holidays too.

As we entered the month of Muharram, the traffic on Karachi’s roads surged to an all-time high. The fact, that for the first time in a span of 20 years, the Bohra Community in Karachi is hosting their spiritual leader for the month, which has contributed immensely to the rising traffic.

With the usual Muharram processions also occurring, it is bound to have an effect on the daily commute of people. A very valid question that arises is, why not declare the 8th of Muharram as a holiday?

The Private Schools Management Association, Karachi has issued the following order.

While some people breathed a sigh of relief, others had their rightful reasons to be concerned.

All parents and working individuals have a legitimate basis for their concerns, as some of the main roads of Karachi, especially, Karsaz and Shahra-e-Faisal, are severely clogged with traffic.
