Last year Pakistan saw some of its worst days, followed by revolutionary movements to end certain VIP etiquettes. These movements might have created a tad bit of change but otherwise the VIP culture continues to thrive in Pakistan at the expense of many others suffering.

A recent report submitted by Home and Tribal Affairs department in KPK’s provincial assembly suggests that a total of 653 guard personnel have been assigned to a meager 273 government politicians and VIPs, for their security, costing a staggering PKR 22.23 million per month.

The report was served as a response to questions raised by Mufti Syed Janan, a JUI-F lawmaker, who later used the same report to point fingers at revolutionary movement leader, Imran Khan, stating, “Imran Khan makes tall claims in the media to have eliminated VIP culture from K-P, but in reality provincial ministers and lawmakers are enjoying protocols that are burdening the province with million.”

The report further details the number of security officials hired by multiple ministers of KPK and how much it costs on approximate per year. While some of the need for security to these government officials may be justified, due to the pertaining law and order situation in Pakistan, the amounts are still too high to be acceptable.
