Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has allocated around Rs.8.4 billion, for the construction of roads, drainage systems, and flyovers. This amount was taken out from Rs.12 billion which was reserved for the Karachi Development Package Phase- II.

He took this decision while presiding over a meeting here at the CM House on Thursday to review the progress of ongoing schemes launched under Karachi Package Phase-I and approve new schemes of the package phase-II.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, Chairman P&D Mohammad Waseem, Minister Local Government Jam Khan Shoro, PD Karachi Package Niaz Soomro, Khalid Masroor, Secretary Finance -Hassan Naqvi and others.

The 14 schemes which were approved are listed below along with their allocated amounts;

1. Road from Tank Chowrangi to Super Highway

Around Rs.350 million is allocated for the construction of the road from Tank Chowrangi to Super Highway via Thadho Nalo.

2. Road from Shahrah-e-Faisal to Karsaz

Rs280 million allocated for the reconstruction of Tipu Sultan Road from Shahrah-e-Faisal to Karsaz.

3. Tipu Sultan and Khalid Bin Waleed Intersection

Rs1.5 billion is given for the construction of the bridge at Tipu Sultan and Khalid Bin Waleed Intersection at Shaheed-e-Millat Road.

4. Stadium Road

Rs270 million for the widening of Stadium Road from University Road to Rashid Minhas Road.

5. Bridge at Sunset Boulevard and Gizri Boulevard

Rs.70 million has been approved for construction of the bridge at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Gizri Boulevard.

6. Storm Drain 1

Rs.200 million for the construction of Storm Drain from Star Gate to Chakora Nullah.

7. Storm Drain 2

Rs70 million will be spent on the construction of a storm drain at Hassan Square.

Along with these main schemes, CM also approved the renovations and laying of new water and sewerage lines of Lea Market, Jodia Bazaar, Sarafa Bazaar and Juna Market areas. These schemes would cost around Rs644 million.

The other approved schemes are;

  • Remodeling of 12000 Road in Landhi,
  • Reconstruction of Cantt Station Road along with laying new sewerage and water supply lines.
  • Improvement of road from Fawara Chowk to Garden.
  • Construction of an interchange bridge at CCI Intersection.
  • Widening of the bridge over Korangi Nullah.

The CM also reviewed ongoing schemes of Karachi package phase-I, and said,

“This is one of the most important schemes and I want to inaugurate it by the end of November.”
