Singer-turned religious scholar, Junaid Jamshed, was assaulted at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad in the early hours on Sunday. Protestors chanted slogans for Junaid and started hitting him, claiming that he has committed blasphemy.

In the video, protesters can be seen shouting out slogans ‘Hit Him’ over and over, while Junaid Jamshed pleaded people to ‘talk’ the matter out and sort out the misunderstanding.
Upon abusive and violent confrontation, Junaid Jamshed managed to escape the crowd and entered the airport’s arrival lounge.

The attack seemed to grab a lot of attention, not only by common people and fans of Junaid, he also received support from the celebrities, political figures and Islamic scholars in Pakistan.

According to the recent statement released by the Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the authorities are taking strict actions against the attackers; Nisar has also instructed the police to get in touch with Junaid himself to register a case against the protestors.
His wife was present with him at the airport when the attack happened and immediately called the police. The police are currently looking for the attackers.
Chaudhry Nisar also said, “No one can be allowed to take the law into their own hands and intolerant behaviour should be discouraged at all levels.”
