“True champions aren’t always the ones that win, but those with the most guts.” -Mia Hamm

With the gents just eclipsing the Champions Trophy title we now turn our attention to the Pakistan Women Cricket Team.

This tournament has 8 countries competing and the format is similar to the 1992 Men’s World Cup, where each team plays against each other before the eventual knockout rounds. We shall be eagerly waiting for the July 2nd clash between India and Pakistan!

Once again, it promises to be a great affair at Derby and a much anticipated battle of wits between the enigmatic Sana Mir (Pakistan Captain) and the effervescent Mithali Raj (India Captain).

Women’s cricket has taken off well in the country, with some string of recent successes and quality matches.

Very excited to watch the 18 year old, left arm orthodox spinner Nashra Sandhu who in a short span of time has built up quite a reputation.

But to defeat the Ellyse Perry’s, Suzie Bates and Heather Kinght’s of the world, our experienced ladies and the younger girls will have to bring more to the plate.

Nain Abidi, has star-power and movie star looks and is an immensely important cog in the wheel, the ever consistent Javeria Khan is the backbone with her excellent top order technique, backed up equally by the workhorse Asmavia Iqbal, an honest to goodness trier.

Being an ardent fan of Sana Mir’s style of leadership and this being probably her last attempt to grab world cup glory, i’m very hopeful of a good showing, whether we win or not remains to be seen but a semi-final position beckons.

Would urge the fans of the game to follow and support the girls as we did the men recently, as it is imperative to gear up an interest in sports across the board.

So, in anticipation, once again, best of luck Sana and the #GirlsinGreen.
