HEC has now announced that Pakistan will be ending the two-year degree programs for BA/ BSc and MA, MSc from the year 2018 and 2020.
The decision has been taken after much consideration from the education authority and the HEC has also devised a plan for accommodating all the existing 2-yr program students into 4 year BS programs.
HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed mentioned, “The HEC was established with the goal of bringing Pakistan’s higher education sector at a par with the world. Our students faced problems worldwide because of the two-year BA and MA degree programs, as these were not recognized internationally”

Due to the two-year degrees not being globally recognized and keeping the students’ best interest in mind the decision was taken forward.
However, if a student would like to opt-out after two years, they are applicable to the associate degree.
The HEC has also stated there will be no admissions in BA/BSc after 2018 and MA/ MSc programs after 2020. Only 4-year (8 semesters) studies would now be recognized by the education board.
