UPDATE

According to the Pakistan MET department, it is expected that heavy rainfalls will hit Karachi from today till Monday and will probably, eventually, cause urban flooding in low-lying areas, like Lyari and Malir. Karachi commissioner, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, has issued warnings of heavy rainfall and urban flooding in the metropolis.

The MET official has stated that around 50mm to 60 mm of rainfall is expected in a day and as we know, Karachi can only sustain as much as only 20 mm of rainfall before coming to a complete standstill.

Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has declared an emergency and claimed that KMC and DMC are as ready as they can be for the impending monsoon rainfalls.

KMC claims that while they try to clean the sewage drains every day, the citizens of Karachi dump solid waste into them the very next day.

While work is being done to clean the nullahs and rain drains as quickly as possible, due to the blocked drainage system, KMC has warned that Karachi will be submerged in water soon after monsoon rains hit the city.

The water board claims that most sewage lines have been cleaned and has requested the citizens of Karachi to not open manholes to drain the rain water, as it damages their sensitive sewerage lines.

Along with Karachi, others Sindh cities to experience major monsoon rainfalls in the next four days include Hyderabad and Mirpur Khas. Similar warnings have also been issued for other provinces including Baluchistan, Punjab and North KPK.
