It’s quite nice to watch Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Gerard Butler not completely dressed up and wielding swords, but this time even they couldn’t entirely save Gods of Egypt.

Yet another historical fantasy movie showcasing the Gods fighting battles. However, the ‘Gods of Egypt’ is full of unprecedented disappointments.

With around $140 million invested in this venture, the movie has an unbelievable amount of CGI generated creatures, not-so-amazing battle scenes which leave the audiences wanting more.

The story line revolves around Osiris played by Bryan Brown who is ruling the mortals harmoniously until the crowning of Horus, Osiris’ son was to take place.

Set (Gerard Butler) who wants the crown for himself murders the king in broad daylight and fights Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and leaves him blind after he gouges out his eyes.

A thief named Bek (Brenton Thwaites) along with his love interest Zaya (Courtney Eaton) embarks on the mission to retrieve Horus’ eyes so that he could exact his revenge and take back what was rightfully his; the crown.

The actors and actresses in the movie do not appear to be ‘Egyptian’ in any way. It seems to be a classic specimen of Hollywood’s white washing. The accents were also bewildering, as most of the time Gerard Butler would, knowingly or unknowingly, slip back into his own native accent.

The execution severely lacked imagination as most of the fight scenes were shot in slow motion akin to the 300 movie cinematography. It also showed with the inconsistent boring scenes that were one too many.

The movie was packed with everything you’d expect from a historical fantasy; blood, battle, jealousy and vengeance. However, it went overboard with the special effects rendering it quite less believable among many other inevitable gaffes.
