iPhone 6 has faced a lot of criticism since its launch a couple of months ago. The #bendgateissue had just been clarified that a new report came in: iPhone 6 ignited in the user’s jeans pocket causing him a second degree burn!

Phillip Lechter, was travelling to the University of Arizona, with his family in a rickshaw, when a bump caused him to fell slightly over, bending his iPhone 6 in his front jeans pocket by almost 90 degrees, puncturing the battery in the process. Phillip felt a burning sensation on his leg and saw thick smoke coming out of his jeans. He quickly took the phone out and threw it aside.

Passer bys threw ice cold water on his leg to calm the searing heat and on his iPhone 6 to stop it from sizzling further. On inspection of Phillip’s leg, the doctors found out that he had 11.5 cm x 10.5 cm area of second degree burns.

The news about a phone catching fire is shocking, yes, but it is not really that surprising if you come to think of it. All smartphones, not just iPhone 6, has lithium batteries. If a certain amount of pressure is applied, these batteries can explode, with lithium being highly flammable. There have been reports on Samsung Galaxy phone’s exploding under pressure previously too.

Almost all of us, smartphone addicts, too have experienced the phones getting too heated to use. With a live example in front of us now, it is better to be careful than sorry. As a precaution, always remember not to allow your phone to overheat (low battery issues) or overcharge. Also, it is suggested to never sleep or sit on your smartphone for too long.
