As per new policies suggested by Home Secretary, Theresa May, foreign students will no longer be allowed to work in the UK and will be kicked out of the country as soon as their courses end.

In an attempt to fight visa frauds by certain public colleges and immigration advisers, the British Home Office has proposed a new policy where non-EU students are required to leave the country and return to their homeland, before being able to apply for work visa.

Currently, these colleges and immigration offenders use “student visas” as an advertising tactic to attract foreign students to work in the UK.

As a result, only last year 121,000 non-EU students had entered UK with only 51,000 leaving at the end of the term, creating a major influx of 70,000 new people to work in  the UK. According to these official figures quoted in the Daily Mail UK, the number of foreign students entering the UK will rise by over 6% per year in the next five years to 2020.

Along with a policy to force foreign students to return to their countries after finishing their degrees, the Home Office has also taken strict action against 870 fake colleges, which solely exist to take in foreign students.

James Brokenshire, the UK Immigration Minister, is of the opinion that immigration offenders are using these public colleges as a back door to British working visas for foreigners and allowing illegal access to UK job markets.

While the government believes that the British education system is being abused by immigrants, the universities think that the new policies will have an adverse affect and will lead to the loss of some amazing talent and skills.

Top UK universities and businessmen see foreign students as an asset and think it would hurt the business sectors and Britain’s global influence if students are kicked out of the country without being given job opportunities.

Studying in the UK is difficult as it is with the immigration processes and high fees, the new policy would simply put all foreign students off the British education system.
