Foodpanda, Pakistan’s biggest online food portal, celebrated Independence Day through an interactive social media campaign, which concluded on 15th August, 2014 with the announcement of the lucky winners.

The competition, which began on 12th August, 2014, two days prior to the national holiday ran for four consecutive days.  It encouraged foodpanda’s Facebook fans to “show their patriotic spirit” by participating in the following competitions by sending in their photos:

(1) Best decorated houses, cars and objects

(2) Best tourist or recreational spots in Pakistan

(3) Best food prepared for Independence Day

Photographs came pouring in as people shared photos of their past holidays in northern areas of Pakistan, their houses, cars and offices decorated in the unmistakable green and white and many delicious photos of cakes, sweet rice and even vegetables put together in the shape of a Pakistani flag.

More than 100 fans sent 161 pictures for the above mentioned categories, out of which 6 lucky winners were selected at the end, each winning a free meal courtesy of foodpanda.

Another highlight of the campaign was when participants enthusiastically talked about their favorite moment in Pakistan’s cricket history. Over 90 responses were received with one lucky fan winning a free meal.

Omer Siddiqui, spokesperson foodpanda Pakistan said, “We wanted people to celebrate the national day with us by becoming a part of our fun-filled Independence Day competitions. People talked about their favorite cricket moments, food, best decorated themes, and the many beautiful natural landscapes of our nation. It was exhilarating to see so many people come together to share our love for the country.”

This competition was in line with foodpanda’s previous social media campaigns, including the very successful Football Fever 2014 competition which generated up to 800 percent growth in interaction on its Facebook page.

This led to the launch of the second phase of the competition with more overall activity, winners and prizes.

foodpanda has a strong fan base of more than 1 million globally on their Facebook page and frequently promotes contests, quizzes and deals with their fans. Earlier this month, it successfully raised $60 million from its group of investors, to spur growth in their existing markets and further improve customer service.
