Facebook is getting rid of the “Other Inbox” service, a holding place for messages from strangers, and replacing it with a new Message Request feature.
Widely criticized for being dysfunctional, the tool will be scrapped and instead streamlined into Messenger.
That means that messages from non-Facebook friends will land in a Message Request category that will appear either at the top of Messenger mobile or in the Messages tab on the web, explains TechCrunch.
The idea is that users won’t miss out on any messages they may have overlooked because they were languishing in the hidden, seldom looked-at “Other Inbox.”
Or as TechCrunch describes it, the place where messages from strangers went to die.
Users will see the public info of a sender’s profile such as their name, photo, city and job.
