Deepika Padukone’s new Tanishq ad is a lovely reminder of the importance of family and togetherness on festivals like Diwali.

It stars the actress’ real-life parents alongside her, her father a former Badminton player, Prakash Padukone, and her mother Ujjala Padukone, who has also been featured in a previous Tanishq ad with Deepika.

The ad depicts the day of Diwali and all the preparations that go into it, with Deepika as the loving and compliant daughter. All three are immersed in the traditions and routines of Diwali, as the daughter cleans, the mother makes sweets, and the father hones his artistic side with vibrantly colourful Rangoli.

Conceptualized by Lowe Lintas, this advertising campaign has been launched by Tanishq to promote their newest jewelry range, Divyum.

According to the General Manager of Marketing Jewellery at Tanishq, Deepika Tewari, “The story of a family celebration that any of us can relate to – this is something we are happy to showcase this festive season. We at Tanishq truly believe that when we start the year right, the rest of it is just as good.”

All the well-known and well-loved rituals of Diwali are portrayed, from the daughter waking up to the sounds of firecrackers, to the mother’s insistence on starting to clean the house right away. It recreates the hustle bustle in the house on Diwali, and the routines shared my families across India.

It ends on an adorable family moment, as Deepika thanks her generous father for his wonderful gift while her mother stands by amused at their antics.

The advertisement strikes a chord with everyone who has partaken in traditional festivals and enjoyed the customs and rituals that go with festivals like Diwali. It reminds viewers that holiday time is always best spent with family, and invokes a nostalgia within those who may be far from home.
