Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station owners stated on Wednesday that they will shut down all stations across the Sindh province if the government denies them to sell gas in the form of liters. Instead of resolving the issue, matters got worse and thus CNG stations went on a strike from today, 11th August.

All CNG station owners along with members of the core committee have decided not to open any CNG station until OGRA decides to provide them with relief.

Chairman of All Pakistan CNG Association, Sindh Zone, Shabbir Sulemanjee, while talking to the stakeholders and Deputy Director Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Karachi, expressed the concerns over continuous violations of authority.

He said, “Instead of resolving the issue, the OGRA official threatened to take stern action against CNG stations if they would not reverse to sell CNG in kilograms.”

He also added that the fixation of CNG lapsed prices through OGRA ordinance. Therefore, the prices will be fixed under marketing and production rules which were implemented in 1992.

This implies that OGRA does not have the authority to determine the prices.

He further added, “OGRA violated the order of the Islamabad High Court regarding an increase in the gross calorific value.” He mentioned that gas prices have increased to Rs.4-5 per kilogram due SSGC pipeline’s LNG molecule injection.

The statement further continued, “discrimination in their price notification. The CNG association also filed a petition before the senate where all the concerns of CNG pricing distortion were duly accepted by the OGRA officials. The authority is yet to comply with the pricing mechanism. Rs48.20/liter for Sindh was fixed according to pricing formula of the OGRA. Therefore, all the CNG associations in Sindh along with the members and core committee have unanimously decided to close down their businesses from immediately until OGRA provides relief.”
