The release of Avatar 2, sequel to the multiple Academy Award winning Avatar 2009, has been postponed until the Christmas of 2017. It was first planned to hit the cinemas on December 2016.

James Cameron, the Director said that the main reason for the delay was the complex script writing owing to the simultaneous script writing and designing of all three sequels.

“We’re not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that. And parallel with that, we’re doing all the design. So we’ve designed all the creatures and the environments.” said James Cameron.

James Cameron told Associated Press that the three scripts and the three screenplays will be completed by the end of January, 2015 All three sequels will be filmed in New Zealand simultaneously .

The sequels will be relased by  one year gap, wrapping up the trilogy by 2019.

Avatar was the first film to earn as high as $2.8 billion worldwide and became the highest-grossing film beating the 12-year record keeper, Titanic. The science fiction, won two Golden Globe Awards for  best picture-drama and best director. It also won three Academy Awards for visual effects, art direction and cinematography.

Initially two sequels to the movie were announced until August 2013 when  James Cameron announced a third sequel explaining that “two films would not be enough to capture everything I wanted to put on screen.”

Cameron on 20th April 2010 mentioned in an interview that the storyline of Avatar 2 will be set several years ahead of events of the original Avatar.

He also revealed that some of the scenes will be set in Pandora which according to him is a “world where our imaginations can run wild.” He also stated that the culture will be partially inspired by the small pacific civilization of Micronesia, a collective word for small islands located in western Pacific Ocean.

Let’s hope that the sequels set new records and are equally liked by the viewers.
