Pakistani celebrities are lauded across the globe and have also worked in some notable films in Bollywood. However, the restriction on our artists in India after the Uri attacks last year has led to celebrities such as Fawad Khan, Mahira and Ali Zafar to return.

Although our very own actors have always spoken highly of the treatment they received across the border, but it seems like it wasn’t as rosy as portrayed by the stars.

In a recent interview with Dawn, Ali Zafar spoke about what he really went through during the filming of his B-town releases after the Mumbai 2008 attacks.

“While I was working in India I was very conscious of the fact that this is not my country. Luckily, I only had two days of filming left.”

Zafar explains that it was the media who created havoc in the situation and not the Indian people.

“The Indian media instantly started thrashing Pakistan but on the ground level nothing changed, things were still pretty normal for me.”

The Uri attacks were a different story altogether and created chaos as never seen before, the Rockstar had to return amidst the ‘Dear Zindagi’ promotions amongst all the confusion.

“My film ‘Dear Zindagi’ was about to come out. Initially when this happened, one didn’t know what to make of it and when it was escalated to that level, I sat back and pondered [over it]”

Pondering over what had escalated the situation so quickly, Zafar believes social media played a huge part in what happened after the Uri attacks.

“I realised that the difference between now and then, because something much bigger had happened before, was the presence and emergence of social media.”

Ali’s younger brother, Daniyal Zafar was set to debut in a Yash Raj venture but this was also put to hold as the budding star had to leave the country immediately.
