The US military just got their wish, i.e. the wish of having pizza at the border lines or when they are at war. The U.S Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC) in Natick, Mass have finally made a pizza for the military that can stay fresh and edible up till a time of three years as reported by Associated Press.

The most difficult of the steps involved in the invention of this pizza were the ingredients. The ingredients that were used to make this pizza included sauce, cheese and dough with changed acidity while also adding ingredients known as humectants, that include sugar, salt and syrup, which stops water from reaching dough and therefore reduces the growth percentage of bacteria, allowing the pizza to stay fresh for much long.

As according to Michelle Richardson, a scientist at NSRDEC,

“You can basically take the pizza, leave it on the counter, packaged, for three years and it’d still be edible.”

The best thing about the pizza is that it tastes as good as a pizza from any of your next door pizza parlor, making it not only a yummy meal but also a much convenient one as it requires neither any refrigeration nor any freezing, while keeping its taste simply fresh even at 80 degrees of heat.

How’s the taste?

Not tasted by many soldiers, the pizza’s final prototype taste was commented upon by Jill Bates, the scientists at NSRDEC, who runs the taste lab, as:

“It pretty much tastes just like a typical pan pizza that you would make at home and take out of the oven or the toaster oven,”

while she further added on

“The only thing missing from that experience would be it’s not hot when you eat it. It’s room temperature.”

This news has made U.S military much happier, allowing them to shift off finally from the spaghetti’s which they have been eating since years.
